Day 4400: Letting Go

I conduct many mindfulness exercises in my therapy groups where we’re letting go of something that is not serving us well, like anxiety, despair, worry about the future, regrets about the past, harsh self judgment, old patterns of behaviors, unhelpful thoughts including comparisons and personalization, assumptions, and people who are taking up too much space in our heads.

Do you see letting go in any of my images for today?

The New York Times, 1/18/25

.

According to today’s news, it looks like the USA might be letting go of TikTok.

Here’s the first thing I find when I search for “letting go” on YouTube.

.

What are your thoughts and feelings about letting go?

Thanks to all who helped me create this letting-go post, including YOU!

Day 4064: Who Shall I Be

Who shall I be on Who Shall I Be Day?

Maybe I shall be a blogger who shares these words and images.

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “who shall I be” on YouTube.

.

Who shall I be? Someone who is grateful every day for YOU!

Day 4063: I Read the News Today

.

Sometimes I consider not reading the news, but that won’t make the news go away.

Here are the rest of my images for this I-read-the-news-today post:

.

It’s no surprise what I find on YouTube when I search for “I read the news today.”

.

Thanks to all who help me keep on sharing even when I read the news today, including you.

Day 4045: Why I write songs

I write songs

  • to help myself and others,
  • because I love music,
  • for a creative outlet, and
  • because lyrics and tunes show up in my brain.

Today, as I’m dealing with issues related to chronic illnesses, I started writing “The Chronic Illness Song.”

When you have a chronic illness

You have to take your pill, yes,

And do other things you may not want to do.

©️ Ann Koplow, 2024

That’s all I have so far, but stay tuned.

Why I write songs is related to why I blog every day: to connect with others through words and imagery.

Maybe I write songs because I’m a curmudgeon, a freethinker, somebody who appreciates the little things (like bubble wrap), and a person who sometimes pushes on a door that says pull.

Here’s what I find when I search for “why I write songs.”

.

Thanks to all who help me ask and answer questions like “Why do I write songs?” including YOU.

Day 4005: A Weary World

According to The New York Times, this is a weary world.

.

Sometimes, I get weary of others telling me what kind of world it is (and other restricting labels), but many people I meet are weary these days.

What kind of world do you see in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “a weary world” on YouTube.

.

This video might help a weary world (as it helped my husband Michael and me yesterday):

.

Thanks to all who help this world feel less weary, including YOU!

Day 3979: Why is everyone so grumpy?

“Why is everyone so grumpy?” is the headline of a recent article in The New York Times.

.

I’m too grumpy to read that article, especially because The New York Times makes me so grumpy lately.

I can think of many reasons why everyone is so grumpy, including

  • the news,
  • the way the media covers the news,
  • rapid changes we cannot control,
  • physical pain,
  • emotional pain,
  • disconnection,
  • overwhelming responsibilities and experiences,
  • trauma,
  • fears about the future,
  • regrets about the past,
  • miscommunication,
  • grumpy strangers, friends, and family members, and
  • the natural proclivity to focus on the negative.

What can we do when everyone is so grumpy? Let’s see if there are any answers in my other images for today.

.

The Daily Bitch is always grumpy and here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “why is everyone so grumpy?”

.

Many thanks to Dr. Tracey Marks, kind creatures everywhere, and all those who help me feel less grumpy, including YOU!

Day 3925: Shutdowns

There’s been a lot of talk about shutdowns lately, so let’s look at two explanations of shutdowns.

.

Constant threats of shutdowns can cause people to shut down, as a form of self preservation.

.

While the U.S Government shutdown was averted yesterday, I was relatively shut down because of a strong reaction to the COVID-19 booster. Today, I feel much better and ready to share the rest of today’s images with you.

.

Too many choices can make me shut down, and not just because I’m an older person.

Here’s what I find when I search for “shutdowns” on YouTube.

.

Before I shut down today’s blog post, thanks to all who help me NOT shut down, including YOU!

Day 3878: What are you looking forward to?

What are you looking forward to? I asked that question last night on the site formerly known as Twitter.

Speaking of dangling prepositions, to what am I looking forward? Among other things, I’m looking forward to a day when my jaw doesn’t click when I open it. Since I talk for a living, maybe my jaw will get a much needed rest next week when I’m on vacation, which I’m looking forward to.

Are you looking forward to my other images for today?

.

I’m looking forward to many relaxation days, starting (why not?) NOW.

Here’s the first thing I find when when I search YouTube for “what are you looking forward to?”

.

Now I’m looking forward to comments about what you’re looking forward to, below.

Thanks to all who give me something to look forward to, including YOU!

Day 3834: International Jokes

Yesterday, on International Joke Day, I asked this question on Twitter:

My last question for the (International Joke) day: Who is an international joke?

Because of international joke Elon Musk, I can’t access that question on Twitter at the moment …

… but I can share some of the answers (which I gathered before my “rate limit” was quickly exceeded this morning).

.

Do you see any international jokes in the other images I was able to capture for today?

.

On I Forgot Day, I’m going to forget about international jokes Musk, Trump, Putin, and the Supreme Court as I, without limits, work on my book and joke with my husband Michael’s family.

Here’s what I find when I search for “international jokes” on YouTube:

.

Thanks to Dawn Wong, Wes Anderson, sane people on Twitter, and everyone else who helped me create this International Jokes post, including YOU!

Day 3824: Are things worse or better?

I often notice that people believe that things are worse, not better, than they used to be, which is the subject of this piece in the New York Times:

.

Now I better include this excerpt from that article by Dr. Adam Mastroianni, an experimental psychologist:

.

Are things worse or better in my other images for today?

.

I have to say that things are worse in the world rainforests because of certain stupid guys doing their thing, and we better do something about that soon.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “are things worse or better?”

.

Thanks to all who make my world better, including YOU!
