Day 4704: If it can’t be solved

Whatever it is, if it can’t be solved, I can get frustrated and discouraged.

Yesterday, “it” included ongoing problems with doing notes for my in-person therapy groups, other technology-related problems, the annoying clicking noises in my head when I speak, getting a referral for a visit tomorrow with a doctor about those pesky noises, AND the political situation in the USA.

If it can’t be solved, it helps to write about it here and to share my images for the day.

.

If it can’t be solved by normal means, some people turn to the occult.

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “if it can’t be solved” on YouTube:

.

I also find this:

.

If it can’t be solved, I am still grateful for YOU.

Day 4692: Scams

These days, scams are a frequent topic in my Coping and Healing groups. Several members have been victims of scams and appreciate knowing they are not alone. When phone calls from unknown numbers come in, people don’t answer, assuming they are scams.

Scams seem to be everywhere. Do you see any in today’s blog post?

.

Is Artificial Intelligence a danger, a help, a scam, or what? Tomorrow is the release of my new single “Artificial Intelligence” and this link is no scam:

https://artists.landr.com/057829709669

.

A week from tomorrow I will be interviewed on the popular podcast Therapist Uncensored (which I keep misremembering as “Therapist Unleashed” or “Therapist Unlimited”) and that is no scam either.

I have a bone density scan scheduled for Monday and I keep getting different (ranging from 0 to outrageous) estimates for how much I need to pay. Not wanting to get scammed, I called my health insurance and they told me my responsibility should be $0 unless they submitted it incorrectly. Upon the advice of my health insurance rep, I wrote the hospital and explained that to them and requested they submit it correctly. Here’s the estimate I received this morning:

.

(Sigh)

Here’s what I find when I search for “scams” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all who are doing their best to deal with scams, including YOU!

Day 4533: Peeved

Even though I try to go for it every day, sometimes I get peeved.

.

People in my therapy groups vent about being peeved, annoyed, irritated, miffed, nettled, riled, roiled, steamed, and stung about many things, including medical systems these days.

,

Sometimes, I’m not even sure what I’m peeved about, but chances are it includes technology.

I hope nobody’s peeved that I like sharing my songs here, including this one:

.

Can you tell I was peeved as I captured images yesterday?

.

I’m grateful to wake up everyday, but some days (like today) I wake up peeved.

What helps me when I’m peeved? Naming it. Sharing it (like in this blog). Realizing I’m not alone. Recognizing that I’ve been peeved before and this too shall pass.

Right now, I’m peeved that I have to drive a long distance, again, to deal with the fact that I can’t see well out of my new glasses. I’m peeved that I know so little about getting my songs out there. I’m peeved that I get stymied by technology when I try to do many things online. I’m peeved that the current administration is hell bent on taking away fundamental rights from the kind of people who attend my therapy groups. I’m peeved that so many people voted (again!) for an obviously toxic narcissist.

I’m peeved there are so many things to be peeved about these days.

What are you peeved about?

Thanks to everyone who is here for this peeved post, including YOU!

Day 2343: Growing pains

Sometimes, when I’m trying to make sense of what’s happening with my country, I attribute it to growing pains.

Here’s a definition of growing pains:

grow·ing pains
/ˈɡrōiNG ˌpānz/
noun
neuralgic pains which occur in the limbs of some young children.
the difficulties experienced in the early stages of an enterprise.
“the growing pains of a young republic”

Earlier this week, Vivian (who continues to grow since co-facilitating Coping and Healing groups with me over a year ago), sent me this in a text message:

Vivian (who is never a pain) also sent me this:

Obviously, Frances Cannon has undergone some growing pains and we can all benefit from those.

Yesterday, after a day filled with some painful growth, I left a voicemail message for a lovely co-worker — who is experiencing some growing pains at work — suggesting that she take a break from her pain and anxiety about potentially doing the wrong thing,  by welcoming it.  While that may seem painfully counter-intuitive, that advice comes from my own experience.  In the 1990s, when I was experiencing growing pains and almost debilitating anxiety at my first social work internship, one morning I looked at myself in the mirror and said, “Ann!  Today you are going to celebrate making mistakes and enjoy people getting angry at you.” That self-intervention helped me tolerate the growing pains of becoming a social worker, working within a hospital system, and learning to be a group therapist.

Let’s see if there’s any evidence of growing pains in today’s pictures, shall we?

It’s sometimes a pain for me to decide what music to include in these posts,  because there are so many choices! This image …

IMG_5579

… reminded me of the Pharrell Williams lyrics “Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof” so let’s do this:

Also, in honor of the Who being named world’s loudest  rock band in 1976 …

… let’s do this, from an April 1, 1976 Who Concert in Boston (my hometown, where I’ve experienced lots of growing pains).

I’m looking forward to the comments section, below, growing with your comments.

Gratitude always helps with the pain of growing, so thanks to all who helped me create this “growing pains” post and — of course! — to YOU.

Day 2143: Perfect servings

Yesterday, I saw this sign of perfect servings:

IMG_1044

Here are some non-perfect servings of my thoughts about that:

  • Who got to register the trademark of “”Perfect Servings”? Are they the only ones allowed to claim perfect servings now?
  • Every morning, I work to create a perfect-enough serving of words, images, and music to share here on WordPress.
  • This week was Veterans Day, honoring those who have served to perfect and preserve our freedoms.
  • Even though I believe that most people are wonderful, some people serving my country in leadership roles are as far from perfect as  I have ever witnessed.
  • I see myself as serving the patients at the hospital and often tell them, “I work for you.”   Those verbal servings are my attempt to perfect, adjust, and challenge the power differential in medical systems.
  • So many firefighters and other first responders are desperately serving in California, right now.
  • I’m still trying to perfect my photography skills, so I can present perfect servings of recent pictures:

Here‘s a perfect serving of Neil Young, whose birthday was yesterday:

Finally here’s a perfect serving of thanks for all those who helped me create this post and — of course! — for YOU.

Day 1795: Entitled

I think we’re all entitled to a definition of today’s title.

en·ti·tled
inˈtīdld,enˈtīdld
adjective
believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.

Yesterday, when I entered the group room, followed by the group members, an entitled person kept talking on the phone despite my  multiple requests that he vacate the room so I could start my patient group.

One group member who witnessed this wondered whether the young doctor  felt entitled to finish his  phone call because medical systems have a hierarchy.   I felt entitled to express my opinion that in any medical hierarchy, the patients should be on the top.

We are all entitled to our opinions.

I’m wondering if my photos from yesterday relate to today’s title of “Entitled.” In any case, I’m entitled to share them.

If we realize we are acting in an entitled way, we can always try again with more empathy and compassion.

Here’s “Entitled” by Leighton Meester:

I hope you know you are entitled to make a comment, below.

Everyone who helped me create this “Entitled” post is entitled to my sincere gratitude and so are you!
