These days, scams are a frequent topic in my Coping and Healing groups. Several members have been victims of scams and appreciate knowing they are not alone. When phone calls from unknown numbers come in, people don’t answer, assuming they are scams.
Scams seem to be everywhere. Do you see any in today’s blog post?

Is Artificial Intelligence a danger, a help, a scam, or what? Tomorrow is the release of my new single “Artificial Intelligence” and this link is no scam:

A week from tomorrow I will be interviewed on the popular podcast Therapist Uncensored (which I keep misremembering as “Therapist Unleashed” or “Therapist Unlimited”) and that is no scam either.
I have a bone density scan scheduled for Monday and I keep getting different (ranging from 0 to outrageous) estimates for how much I need to pay. Not wanting to get scammed, I called my health insurance and they told me my responsibility should be $0 unless they submitted it incorrectly. Upon the advice of my health insurance rep, I wrote the hospital and explained that to them and requested they submit it correctly. Here’s the estimate I received this morning:

(Sigh)
Here’s what I find when I search for “scams” on YouTube.

Thanks to all who are doing their best to deal with scams, including YOU!

A few years ago, I advertised on Craig’s List for a housemate and received a very nice response from someone claiming to be a nurse coming to work in Madison. A few emails later, I began to suspect something fishy – for one thing, her syntax was reminiscent of proposals from the well-known Nigerian princes (are they still around?). Anyway, I ditched her on recommendation from my bank (long boring story), and got a real response from someone in Madison (after I designated in-person interviews only). Tina lived with me for two years until my son’s wife died (cancer, an expected event) and he moved in with me (he owned the house). When she came with her son for the interview, I told them the story and mentioned Nigerian princes, at which time her son informed me that although he was born here, his mother (my tenant) was, in fact, Nigerian.
Amazing story, Barbara.
Scams are making me very anti social these days. I don’t answer phone numbers I don’t know, emails I don’t recognize — hopefully I’m not missing some good info here and there. But if I need it I’ll find it myself….
You’re not alone, Claudia.
They are everywhere and have always been, but social media brings more of them to us
So true, beth.
Did you get a new play structure for the cats? I don’t remember seeing that one before.
It’s not new, I think I usually just show the top.
I once almost fell for a scam when someone impersonating the director of the library where I work contacted me to say they needed me for an urgent project. Almost nothing in the library is urgent.
On another occasion the director really did call me to ask if I’d take part in the Shakespeare Day celebration by dressing up as a bear. Without even thinking I blurted out, “Oh, yes, from A Winter’s Tale, Act III, scene 1.” She got quiet and then said, “I must have the right person.”
You are the right person, Chris.

So many unwanted calls, texts and emails, for sure, Ann.
