Day 5023: Less Than Perfect

It’s the end of a less-than-perfect work week, including Less than Perfect Day.

In my less-than-perfect Coping and Healing groups, we’ve been discussing dealing with the world and ourselves being less than perfect. We are always less than perfect and perfectionism gets in the way of realizing that we are still enough.

I did a less-than-perfect insurance review for a patient this week and I am hoping to still get her the therapy services she needs.

This daily blog is less than perfect and I am working with a WordPress Happiness Engineer to try to make it better. “Happiness Engineer” seems like a less-than-perfect label, but all labels are less than perfect.

ChatGPT is less than perfect and I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Time to share my less-than-perfect images for today.

.

Dogs are less than perfect, too.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “less than perfect.”

.

Thanks to all the less-than-perfect people who are here for this less-than-perfect post, including YOU!

Day 4887: Processing anger

People often talk about processing anger in my Coping and Healing groups.

When we are processing anger, I often point out that we have so few role models for processing anger, which is unfortunate during times like these (when there is so much anger to process).

One of my ways of processing anger is to write songs like I’m Mad About You …

.

… and Other People’s Anger.

.

Last night, while I was processing anger about what is happening in the USA, I asked this question about processing anger on Twitter.

.

Is anyone processing anger in my other images for today?

.

The Daily Bitch has her own way of processing anger.

How have you been processing anger?

Thanks to all who are here to witness my processing-anger post, including YOU!

Day 4805: Life saving

Last night, somebody in my Coping and Healing group said they found the group life saving. This was very gratifying to hear.

In a few minutes, I’ll be getting ready to go to the hospital to give a presentation about these life saving groups to a group of life saving interns.

Let’s see if there’s anything life saving in my images for today.

.

My hope is that this song of mine might be life saving.

.

Thanks to all who are life saving (even if you don’t know it), including YOU!

Day 4788: Surprise!

Yesterday, group members gave me a surprise party for my birthday. It was a real surprise because my birthday was last week.

I finished reading the novel A Little Life and was not surprised by the ending. My group members, who have experienced awful traumas (like the main protagonist of the book), surprise me all the time with their resilience and growth.

Do you see any surprises in my images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “Surprise!” on YouTube:

Surprise!

Thanks to all who surprise me every day, including YOU.

Day 4770: What’s wrong with people?

Because I know people often focus on what’s wrong with people, I asked the members of my groups yesterday to do a mindfulness exercise where they focused on the positives about themselves.

Because of yesterday’s Daily Bitch calendar and because of the news, I asked “What’s wrong with people?” last night on social media.

.

What’s wrong with people who ask ChatGPT “what’s wrong with people?”

.

What’s wrong with people who share their daily experiences with others?

.

On National King Day, I’m wondering: What’s wrong with people who support and enable the current US president — a toxic narcissist who acts like he should be King?

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “what’s wrong with people?”

.

Here’s another part of Sebastian Maniscalco’s What’s Wrong With People?

Thanks to all who help me deal with what’s wrong with people, including YOU!

Day 4753: Negative self talk

In yesterday’s blog post, I shared that I was giving up negative self talk for the month of January.

In yesterday’s Coping and Healing group, we talked about negative self talk. The group members wrote down familiar negative self talk and shared theirs with the rest of the group. Most of us tore up the paper with our negative self talk and threw the pieces away.

My negative self talk included:

You’re too selfish.

You don’t do enough.

You’re too old.

You make too many mistakes.

You’re stupid.

It felt good to share that negative self talk, rip the paper into tiny pieces and throw it all away.

Here and now, I am letting go of negative self talk about this AI-arranged version of my original song Everybody’s Somebody’s Asshole, which I just released.

I’m also letting go of negative self talk about today’s blog post, including the images I have to share.

.

What are your thoughts and feelings about negative self talk?

Thanks to all who help me let go of my negative self talk, including YOU!

Day 4739: Sounds and Silence

I like the sound of today’s blog post title as I write this in silence.

I have been sharing the sounds of my new Holiday Song with people and appreciating responses and silence.

https://artists.landr.com/057914402345

In my Coping and Healing group, I often do a mindfulness exercise where people listen to sounds in silence. When I talk to people who are considering joining the group, I reassure them that all their sounds and silences will be welcome.

Do you see sounds and silence in my images for today?

.

I am still enjoying the sounds and the silence in my very own holiday song.

.

Thanks to all who are here for the sounds and silence, including YOU!

Day 4725: Summaries

As if we don’t have time to read anything in full these days, AI has been providing summaries everywhere I look, including here:

.

I don’t know how I feel about these summaries and I wonder what summary AI will write about this blog post about summaries.

Do you see summaries in my images for today?

.

Here’s a summary of a Christmas song I recorded and posted on TikTok (which is full of summaries) yesterday.

.

In summary, thanks to all who are here for this summaries (and non-summery) post, including YOU!

P.P.S. (Post Publishing Summary):

Why not take a hint from that summary and comment on this summaries post?

Day 4721: Food for thought

People in my therapy groups often talk about food. When they do, I sometimes invite them to expand their thoughts to different kinds of nourishment. We also do an exercise when we practice mindful eating and think about food in a more in-the-moment way.

Yesterday, when somebody was eating food in one of the two online groups I facilitate on Thursdays, I talked about how I had once been a member of a group where the leader did not allow people to eat or drink. When I had tried to drink from my water bottle in her group, she stopped me and invited me to put my feelings into words. When I tried to put into words why I thought that was food for thought, I could tell that people were grateful that I didn’t have that rule.

Do you see food for thought in my images for today?

.

.

Happy National Sachertorte Day!

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “food for thought.”

Day 4713: Stories

Somebody in yesterday’s Coping and Healing group said they wished they had been taught the real story of Thanksgiving when they were in school. In the same group, people also shared stories of their favorite memories of Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving stories I told included leaving after the meal to volunteer at a suicide hotline for eight hours, so I could listen to other people’s stories.

What stories do you see in my images for today?

I notice some conflicting stories there; do you?

I keep trying to get my musical stories out there while also staying in the moment.

.

I look forward to any stories you choose to share in the comments section, below.

I give thanks for all who are here for my daily stories, including YOU!
