Day 4951: Talking about the Weather

I used to think that talking about the weather was a way to avoid deep conversations.

Now, not talking about the weather seems like a way to avoid and deny the existential threat of climate change.

Yesterday, I was talking about the weather because I ventured out for a walk to CVS, underestimating the fury and speed of an approaching thunderstorm. When it hit with intense winds, driving rain, and deafening thunder, I had to focus on reaching shelter as soon as possible. Luckily, a woman driving by with her daughter stopped to pick me up and drive me to CVS. Talking about the weather, this total stranger even offered to wait for me to drive me back home. That’s how bad the weather was!

I opted to stay at CVS until the storm passed so I could walk safely home. Talking about the weather, here are images of before the storm hit …

.

… and after it passed:

.

When I got back home and I finished talking about the weather with my husband Michael, I found this email from James Sullivan, the organizer of the inspiring Which Side? protest song teach-out (which I was talking about in yesterday’s blog post).

I wasn’t talking about the weather when I accepted James’s offer for me to share my protest song “You Don’t Scare Me!” at an upcoming show.

The people attending these protest song teach-outs agree: The current USA administration talking trash about immigrants and other human beings instead of talking about the weather is dangerous, unacceptable, and has to stop!

Talking about the weather, here are the rest of my images for today.

.

It seems right that I’m talking about the weather on Yada, Yada, Yada and Hot Enough For Ya Day.

Here’s what I find when I search for “talking about the weather” on YouTube:

.

Thanks to all who are talking about the weather, including YOU.

Day 4809: Current Events

Because of how I currently feel about current events, I’m going to let today’s Daily Bitch Calendar go first.

.

The current event on my personal calendar is attending a training group with other group therapists. I’m guessing we will be talking about current events.

Do you see current events in my other images for today?

.

I’m afraid of what I’ll find if I search YouTube for “current events.”

.

What are your thoughts and feelings about current events?

Thanks to all who help me get through current events, including YOU!

Day 4207: Voices

Yesterday, on the ferry ride home from work, I was sitting next to two lovely women with lively, warm, British voices. One of them asked me if the ferry was going to the airport and I wasn’t sure, which made all our voices a little shaky for a moment, since they had to catch a plane to return home to London.

The rest of the ride to the airport we used our voices to get acquainted.

That’s Katie and Cara, who had never been in Boston before and were here for an unexpected 24-hour layover because of a plane cancellation.

Cara didn’t have to use her voice to let people know she was celebrating her 40th birthday.

It was so much fun talking to Cara and Katie about Boston, London, Las Vegas, and the Edinburgh Fringe, that I eventually raised my voice to sing them my song “Everybody’s Somebody’s Asshole.” The sisters used their voices — even singing along! — to let me know they liked that song a lot.

I believe we will hear each other voices in the future, which makes me happy.

.

Are there voices in my other images for today?

.

Here are some voices responding to my performance of “Everybody’s Somebody’s Asshole“ at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival:

.

Thanks to Cara and Katie, Voices of the Waterfront, the voices of my friends on Twitter, and all who use their voices for good, including YOU!

Day 3887: Weather Complaint Day

Today is Weather Complaint Day, which seems well-timed for all the people feeling the effects of human-made climate change around the world (which the Republican candidates for President denied in last night’s debate).

My personal weather complaint is this: the forecasted rainfall is dampening my plans to walk with my son tomorrow morning to catch a ferry to Logan Airport. And now that I check the 10-day forecast for Halifax, Nova Scotia, there might be some weather complaints there, too.

Here are my images for Weather Complaint Day:

.

Now that I’ve celebrated Weather Complaint Day with you, I can celebrate International Strange Music Day by working on my strange Climate Change Song and another strange song I started writing yesterday — “I Don’t Wanna Be Late (I Don’t Wanna Be Early Either).”

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “Weather Complaint Day.”

.

Thanks to all who help me weather whatever weather there is, whether or not I feel prepared, including YOU!

Day 3877: Trending Now

What’s trending now, here, includes dealing with the peeling paint on our metal ceiling and preparing for my son Aaron starting a mathematics PhD program in Halifax, Nova Scotia. While people were helping me with both of those issues, I saw this:

.

What’s trending now also includes Climate Change, so I’m writing a song about that.

.

Do you see what’s trending now in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “trending now.”

.

Gratitude is trending now and always here, so thanks to all who help me figure out what’s trending now, including YOU.

Day 3798: Nothing To Fear

Today is Nothing to Fear Day!

.

Do you see anything to fear in this blog on Nothing to Fear Day?

.

There’s nothing to fear about people’s anger, envy, or bitchiness, which is like cellophane tape. It’s sticky, but you can always peel it off.

Here’s what I find when I search for “nothing to fear.”

.

There is nothing to fear about watching another video on Nothing to Fear Day.

.

I have nothing to fear about that 5-second fear-killing technique, so 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Day 3559: Rough seas

Rough seas are everywhere, it seems.

That “rough seas” sign showed up for the first time yesterday in my neighborhood, which is by the sea. Our seas are blessedly calm this morning, as I read about the rough seas in the rest of the world.

I do believe that rough seas make good sailors, but they also make people sick. I hope we can navigate our way to calming the rough seas before it’s too late.

Do you see rough seas in my other images for today?

.

Rough seas make the Daily Bitch even bitchier.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “rough seas.”

Thanks to all who navigated their way through rough seas to be here, now.

Day 3201: What can we achieve?

My late mother used to say to me, “Ann, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything.” I think she was exaggerating, as mothers do.

I’ve noticed, as I’ve aged, that there are certain things I can NOT achieve (e.g., liking calculus, reaching the highest shelves in the supermarket, diagnosing our cats’ ailments, athletic prowess, an understanding of how politics work, and perfection in anything). I’ve achieved acceptance about that.

I have achieved this: I’ve helped people disconnect their sense of self worth from achievements, so they can accept and love themselves without needing to constantly reestablish their worthiness based on their latest accomplishments. People can achieve more if they love themselves unconditionally.

Let’s see what The Daily Bitch has to say today about what we can achieve.

I’m not sure how we can achieve a world without assholes, so I guess we’ll have to do the best we can despite them.

At this point, we need to achieve a state of civilization where we are working together to save ourselves and the planet for the future, and I sometimes doubt whether that’s achievable any more. I expect I’ll achieve more hope about this, soon.

What can I achieve by sharing my other images with you today?

What can I achieve today? Well, I’ve got my eye on National Noodle Day.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “what can we achieve?”

What can you achieve if you leave a comment below? Let’s find out.

What can we achieve if we express gratitude to all those we appreciate? A lot, I believe.

Day 3140: Are you an optimist, pessimist, or what?

Today’s blog title is inspired by this:

According to that, I think I’m all those things, depending on the situation, my mood, and my perspective.

Are you an optimist, pessimist, or what as you look at today’s other images?

I was optimistic that I would find something I’d want to share here if I searched YouTube for “optimist, pessimist, or what” and I found this …

… and this:

I’m wondering if that second video explains people’s resistance to thinking and acting about climate change.

No matter if you’re an optimist, pessimist, or what, thanks for visiting my daily blog today!

Day 2998: It doesn’t make sense

It doesn’t make sense that so many people are

  • hateful,
  • cruel,
  • ignorant,
  • racist,
  • sexist,
  • homophobic,
  • ageist,
  • close-minded,
  • irrational,
  • petty,
  • malicious,
  • rigid,
  • divisive,
  • greedy,
  • humorless,
  • dismissive,
  • immature,
  • intolerant, and
  • uncaring.

It doesn’t make sense that bad things happen to good people.

It doesn’t make sense that there are such extreme economic inequalities.

It doesn’t make sense that people’s rewards on this earth do not match the value of what they contribute to others.

It doesn’t make sense that people focus on short-term gain, ignoring long-term consequences and realities.

It doesn’t make sense that we are trashing our own home — the Earth.

It doesn’t make sense that we don’t join together to solve problems.

It doesn’t make sense that people are so hungry for power and then misuse it when they get it.

It doesn’t make sense that people act like they’re going to live forever.

It doesn’t make sense that people who have so little sense do so much of the talking.

It doesn’t make sense that we change the clocks twice a year.

It doesn’t make sense that, as of this writing, nobody has commented on this photo from yesterday’s blog post:

Does it make sense that all this was inspired by one daily bitch?

It does make sense that Michael is making hot, buttery mashed potatoes tonight.

Do my other images today make sense?

It doesn’t make sense to me that so many people voted for Donald Trump.

Here’s “It Makes No Sense!” by Trevor Noah …

… and “Life Doesn’t Make Sense!” by Pete Holmes:

It doesn’t make sense that I’m just now finding out about the amazing Regina Carter.

What doesn’t make sense to you?

It doesn’t make sense to end any blog post without expressing gratitude for all who helped me create it, including YOU!
