Day 4389: Appearances

Self esteem is very often connected to appearances.

Through my appearances in therapy groups, I encourage people to disconnect their sense of self worth from their appearances, practicing unconditional self love NOW.

From all appearances, that is very difficult to do in a culture so obsessed with appearances.

What do you notice about appearances in my images appearing here today?

.

Here’s what appears when I search for “appearances” on YouTube:

.

That reminds me of my aunt suggesting I get a nose job when I was young and other thoughts and feelings I’ve had about my various appearances at different ages. I appreciate YiWen Fan’s conclusions about appearances, including letting go of comparisons.

Thanks to all who are making appearances here, now, including YOU!

Day 4076: Inexplicable

It’s inexplicable to me how I can get so much explicitly positive feedback — at a conference, in my work, on my blog, from my friends, etc. — and still focus on what’s lacking within and around me.

What makes it almost explicable is my theory that our ancestors who survived focused on the negatives, therefore avoiding/outwitting the saber toothed tigers and hostile tribes, while also concentrating on improving any skill defects.

Yesterday, it was inexplicable to me that my Lyft driver told me that you need cash to ride the giant Ferris wheel you’ve been seeing in my photos lately. After we had a long conversation about how inexplicable it was for anything to be cash only these days (especially a tourist attraction), I found out later that the ride has always been credit card only. Inexplicable.

Is there anything inexplicable in my images for today?

It’s inexplicable to me why some of those dates are shaded with purple.
It’s inexplicable how I messed up the Daily Bitch Calendar date in yesterday’s post.

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “inexplicable.”

Explicable thanks to all who help me deal with the inexplicable, including YOU.

Day 4049: Groundhog Day, again

Against all odds, I am still here doing this life thing again (and again and again) as I turn 71 on Groundhog Day.

Here are some photos of my life, again.

I love that it’s also Self Renewal Day and World Play Your Ukulele Day, again.

Here’s what I find when I search for Groundhog Day, again.

It’s not a mic drop for me, yet.

Thanks to all who are here with me for Groundhog Day, again! 🎉💕

Day 4047: Escapes

I can’t escape the feeling that I’ve written about escapes here before, because they are so important for mental health. We all need escapes; otherwise, we can feel stuck, powerless, discouraged.

Personally, I find no escapes, here and now, from

  • the cold and the dark,
  • my chronic health conditions,
  • the news,
  • nervousness about my upcoming concert,
  • aging (especially because I’m turning 71 on Friday),
  • and that nagging feeling that I’m forgetting something important.

Do you see escapes in my images for today?

.

Here is “Escape” by Prince!

.

Thanks to all who help me plan my escapes, including YOU!

Day 3944: Conflict Resolutiom

In the news, I’m seeing conflict, conflict everywhere and not much conflict resolution.

Do you see conflict resolution in my images for today?

.

Is the Daily Bitch conflicted about getting old? My resolution about that conflict is to embrace every day and to let go of fear as we grow older together.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for conflict resolution.

.

In that Ted Talk, Karleen Savage shares many practical, simple, and helpful ideas about conflict resolution.

Thanks to all who strive for conflict resolution, including YOU.

Day 3828: Observances

Here and now, my observances include the following:

  • I’m glad my son is spending the next month with friends in Europe before he starts a PhD program in mathematics,
  • I want to write an article or book about my Coping and Healing groups,
  • I love every Beatles song but there’s one I love just a little bit more,
  • I don’t mind getting old,
  • Cats are everywhere, even in my dreams, and
  • Forgiveness can be very healing.

What other observances can you find in today’s blog post?

Out of all those observances, the one I’m wondering about is Please Take My Children to Work Day.

Here’s what I find when I search for “observances” on YouTube.

I look forward to reading your observances in the comments section below.

Thanks to all who have observances, including YOU!

Day 3650: Changes over time

I’ve been contemplating changes over time because

  • We’re approaching the end of another year,
  • I’m approaching my 10th anniversary of daily blogging,
  • I’m approaching my 70th birthday,
  • My 24-year-old son (who has changed over time, of course) and I have been talking about changes over time,
  • Plans for our shower remodel are FINALLY set after many changes over time, and
  • There have been changes over time at Twitter (and everywhere else, actually).

Do you see changes over time in my images for today?

.

Here’s what I find on National Tick Tock Day when I search YouTube for “changes over time.”

What are your thoughts and feelings about changes over time?

Timeless thanks to all who experience changes over time, including YOU.

Day 3520: How to cheer yourself up

In general, cheer yourself up by

  • letting go of fears and worries about the future,
  • letting go of regrets about the past by realizing you were doing the best you could at the time,
  • focusing on your blessings, and
  • celebrating whatever and whenever you can.

Yesterday, I cheered myself up by

  • going for a long walk,
  • returning some newly bought luggage I didn’t need,
  • starting to pack for my upcoming trip to Florida and Georgia,
  • treating myself and my husband Michael (whose birthday is today!) to a nice dinner,
  • focusing my thoughts on those I love,
  • realizing I don’t need a psychic to know what my late mother wanted to tell me before she died,
  • appreciating a new wrinkle on my face as proof that I’ve survived much longer than expected,
  • listening to wonderful music, and
  • capturing these images for you and me.

.

I’m cheering myself up, here and now, by

How to cheer yourself up also includes sharing with others (in the comments section below) (hint, hint) and expressing gratitude for those you appreciate, every day.

Day 3186: I do what I want!

Ever since we adopted Joan — our kitty who was found on the streets of Tennessee with her siblings and many kittens — my husband Michael has been “speaking” for Joan by saying, in a high Southern-accented voice, “I do what I want!”

Joan does what she wants by

  • chasing our other cat Harley around the house,
  • sitting where she wants to sit,
  • playing when she wants to play,
  • sleeping when and where she wants to sleep, and
  • generally, being cat.

Joan does what she wants within the confines of wearing a cone …

… as her skin infection heals. Actually, if she was really doing what she wants, she wouldn’t be wearing that damned cone, but she’s doing just fine.

“I do what I want” is also what many humans say as they get older and wiser. I discovered this, again, when I tweeted this yesterday:

Many people on Twitter agreed with me and shared how they do what they want, more and more, as they get older. Somebody actually responded with this:

.

Here are some other responses:

I do what I want when I create this daily blog, so I want to share the photos I took yesterday at work and at home. You do what you want with these:

The Daily Bitch does what she wants. Do you?

I do what I want and I want to see what I find when I search YouTube for “I do what I want.”

I do what I want and I also want to include some music here. Here’s “Do What You Want” from OK Go.

I do what I want and I always want to end these posts with gratitude for all who visit this blog, including YOU!

Day 2892: Transitions

As we experience the transition from November 2020 into December, transitions are on my mind, as you can see from today’s images.

It looks like the pink elliptical is transitioning into a towel rack.

Personally, I’m glad that the White House will be transitioning into a home for dogs and a cat next month.

As Bette Midler transitions today into her mid-70’s, here’s the song she sang to Johnny Carson twenty-eight years ago when he was making the transition to retirement.

What transitions are you dealing with, here and now?

Now it’s time for me to transition to gratitude, so thanks to all who help me create these daily posts, including YOU.
