Day 4141: The unknown

At the beginning of anything (including this blog post), much is unknown.

Many people are afraid of the unknown, but what is unknown becomes more known if we are present for it.

Do you see the unknown in my images for today?

.

At this point, it’s unknown which of those daily holidays I’ll be observing (although the wonderfulness of Dave Brubeck’s music is not unknown to me).

When I look for the unknown on YouTube, I find this:

… this:

… and this:

.

Thanks to all who help me face the unknown, including YOU!

Day 4136: Being a grown-up

Today, the Daily Bitch has something to say about being a grown-up.

.

For me, being a grown-up includes going in to the hospital to work on Mondays and taking good care of those I love, no matter what I’m asked about myself.

Do you see being a grown-up in my other images for today?

.

Being a grown-up on International Noise Awareness Day, I will be aware of not disturbing my neighbors when I play the snare drum loaned to me by the wonderful Riccardo Pearlman, who will be recording my upcoming concert.

Here’s what I find when I search for “being a grown-up” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all who help me create these grown-up posts, including YOU!

Day 4134: What problem are you trying to solve?

I don’t know about you, but when my brain has a problem it’s trying to solve, I have trouble focusing on anything else (including fun stuff like joy and gratitude).

Right now, the problems I am trying to solve involve work, my upcoming show of original tunes, and my images not loading on this blog.

Also, no matter what problems I solve, more problems always pop up to occupy my mind.

Nevertheless, I will do my best to proceed with possible solutions and with hope and faith that all will work out.

No matter what problem I’m trying to solve and no matter what day it is, I first tell a story here and then do some Tai Chi. Then, I feel ready to solve the problems ahead.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “what problem are you trying to solve?”

.

I also find this:

.

What problem are you trying to solve, here and now?

Thanks to all who help me solve problems, including YOU!

Day 4131: Taking chances

Today, I’ll be taking chances as I facilitate two groups, try physical therapy again for what seems to be a chronic (and perhaps unresolvable) problem, practice two of my original compositions with an old friend, and stay out late for the second night in a row at a concert with the amazing Jacob Collier.

Because I wasn’t given too many chances when I was young to survive to my current ripe old age, taking chances seems to come naturally to me. I talked about that last night at a Freedom Seder hosted by dear friends — Jonathan Gershon, Daniella, and their daughter Freedom — in Providence, Rhode Island.

Do you see taking chances in my images for today?

Whenever I create one of these blog posts, I am taking chances that my photos for the day are going to load properly. Today, I had to work really hard to get any images into this blog, which makes me wonder if I’m taking chances by holding on to my old phone and laptop.

Here‘s what I find when I search for “taking chances” on YouTube.

.

Chances are that you know that I’ll be thanking all those who help me in taking chances, including YOU!

Day 4119: Unconditional love

I believe we all yearn for unconditional love.

Some of us get it from our animals, who seem to give it freely.

Some of us learn to give it to ourselves, which takes a lot of practice.

Why is it so difficult to practice and accept unconditional love? After all, it is

  • devoid of harmful side effects,
  • always close at hand, and
  • free.

Do you see unconditional love in my images for today?

.

Do you think I’ll be able to find unconditional love on YouTube?

.

Unconditional love and gratitude to all who are here, now, including YOU!

Day 4118: Responses

So far, I haven’t gotten any responses from my attempt to donate proceeds from my upcoming concert to a local mental health-oriented charity. My responses to that will include more emails, phone calls, and perhaps looking for responses from another worthy cause.

My responses to not getting responses sometimes include disappointment, confusion, discouragement, and second-guessing, but I will keep on keeping on nevertheless. I do notice that it is more difficult to get responses from organizations post COVID — nobody seems to answer the phone these days.

Do you have any responses to my images today?

.

My responses to today’s holidays and observances have to include sharing my son’s animated and clever responses to “Louie Louie” on YouTube:

.

Here are some of the responses to Aaron’s “Misheard Lyrics of ‘Louie Louie’” on YouTube:

.

If one of your responses is wanting to read the New Yorker article cited in those responses, click here.

I wonder what kind of responses I’ll get to this blog post?

Thanks to all who encourage me with their responses, including YOU!

Day 4109: What do you do when your heart aches?

Last night, after seeing heart-aching and heart-breaking news, I asked this question on Twitter.

.

What do you do when your heart aches?

When I search for “heartache” on YouTube, I find this,

… this,

… and this:

.

Thanks to all who help me deal with heartache, including you.

Day 4091: Question and Answer

Q: Why did I title today’s post “Question and Answer?

A: Because it fits the contents and it’s an excuse to share one of my favorite tunes by Pat Metheny.

Q: What images am I going to share today?

A: These.

Q: Why is today Brutus Day?

A: Because of the Ides of March.

Any questions?

My answer to everything is gratitude, so thanks to all who helped me create this “Question and Answer” post, including YOU.

Day 4089: Finding the joy

Finding the joy can be challenging in this world, so I greatly appreciated RuPaul talking about finding the joy on The Stephen Colbert Show.

.

I try to practice finding the joy every day.

.

Here’s more “finding the joy” on YouTube.

I am finding the joy in those videos.

I look forward to finding the joy in your comments, below.

Thanks to all who help me finding the joy, including YOU!

Day 4070: The craziest thing

It’s the craziest thing, but it’s difficult for me — a so-called licensed expert on crazy — to identify the craziest thing in this crazy world.

What’s the craziest thing in my blog post today?

.

It’s the craziest thing, but my son Aaron is turning 26 today. Here’s what I often share on Aaron’s birthday …

… and here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “the craziest thing.”

.

The craziest thing is that tomorrow I’m flying to Washington D.C. — where the craziest things happen — to see my friend Jeanette and to attend yet another group therapy conference.

The craziest thing is that we are all here together now, trying to make sense of the craziest things. Thanks for that!
