Day 3581: Any good news lately?

Because there’s been so much bad news everywhere, I decided to ask people yesterday if there had been any good news lately.

It doesn’t hurt to ask, even though I didn’t know what the answers would be. And while many people have responded “no” and “not really,” there’s been a lot of good news, too.

Knowing about good news gives me some hope about the future, which I definitely need these days.

Is there any good news in my latest images?

The good news is that there are lots of great food trucks out there.

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “any good news lately?”

Any good news lately where you are?

Thanks to all who help me focus more on the good news, including YOU.

Day 3580: States

The United States of America is approaching its midterm election. I am in such a state about the state of our country that I’m afraid to read what this New York Times article states:

I’d like to state that I live in the state of Massachusetts and I wish that the state of my country and the world weren’t so precarious right now. I hope people are in clear-thinking states of mind when they vote in their local elections. The state of inflation is bad world-wide right now and we can’t overstate how often people vote based on the state of their bank accounts. .

What states can you find in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “states” on YouTube:

.

What state are you in? Feel free to state your states in a comment, below.

I’m in a state of gratitude for everyone who helps me state my states every day, including YOU!

Day 3579: Setting limits

In almost every group therapy session, people talk about setting limits with others. Because so many of us are people pleasers, it’s difficult to say “no” without feeling guilty.

Let’s see if today’s Daily Bitch Calendar can offer any insight about setting limits.

.

That might be all we need to know about setting limits, but let’s check my other images anyway.

.

.

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “setting limits.”

Because I slept later than usual today, I need to be setting limits on how much time I spend on this blog post. Therefore, thanks to all who helped me create this “setting limits” post, including YOU!

Day 3578: Stronger together

If I didn’t believe that we’re stronger together than on our own, I wouldn’t be such a passionate proponent of the healing power of groups.

Yesterday, when people were stronger together in the first in-person Coping and Healing group since the beginning of COVID, I saw many stronger-together images.

.

We are stronger together with scientists and researchers who keep seeking important answers.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “stronger together.”

.

I am stronger together with you!

Day 3577: It’s just like riding a bicycle

As I prepare to facilitate my first in-person therapy group at the hospital since the beginning of the pandemic, I’m thinking of the saying “it’s just like riding a bicycle.”

“It’s just like riding a bicycle” — referring to things we used to do but haven’t done in a while — is meant to be reassuring. However, for me, riding a bicycle is tiring, uncomfortable, and possibly dangerous (because I’m on anticoagulant medication). So I hope that doing my group today is NOT just like riding a bicycle.

Do you see anything that’s just like riding a bicycle in my images for today?

.

I hope that getting into work on October 17, 2022 is not just like riding a bicycle (or a bus) but rather like riding a working car, because I had to call AAA three times yesterday when my car wouldn’t start. The last AAA person, who replaced the battery but also said that my alternator is going, said “Your car has a 1000% chance of starting tomorrow.”

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “it’s just like riding a bicycle.”

.

If you haven’t left a comment for a while, it’s just like riding a bicycle.

Thanks to all who helped me create this “it’s-just-like-riding-a-bicycle” post, including YOU.

Day 3576: Better days

As I recover from a bad reaction to the booster shot, yesterday was a better day than Friday. I’m thinking today might be even better, especially because I’ll be ZOOMing with my son Aaron and my ex-husband Leon.

Tomorrow, I’ll be facilitating my first in-person therapy group since the beginning of the pandemic and I hope that makes it a better day for approximately eight people. I’ll have markers there in case anyone wants to make the day better by drawing a facial expression on their mask.

Do you see better days in any of these images?

What could be a better day than National Dictionary Day AND Global Cat Day?

Here’s the song I keep hearing in my head as I’m writing this “Better Days” post.

Thanks to all who make my days better and brighter, including YOU.

Day 3575: A bad day

I had a bad day yesterday because of a bad reaction to the COVID booster shot. I felt so bad that I didn’t take a walk, even when the bad weather turned good in the afternoon.

I push through bad days and yesterday was no exception. I worked from home and, even though I love my work, I couldn’t wait for the bad day to be over. From now on, I’m going to practice better self care, calling out sick on a bad day.

At the end of the bad day, we decided to watch the season finale of “Bad Sisters” and I asked a question about bad movies on Twitter.

Here are the images I captured on my bad day:

.

If today is another bad day, at least I have permission to be a grouch about it.

Here’s the opening sequence of “Bad Sisters,” where somebody is having a very bad day.

.

Thanks to all who make a bad day better, including YOU.

Day 3574: Inertia

I’m feeling a lot of inertia this morning because I got my COVID booster shot yesterday, which always makes feel lousy.

I’m going to overcome that inertia to look up and share a definition of inertia.

Despite my inertia, I will share my belief that it’s impossible to remain unchanged. We all change, even when we’re not aware of it.

Do you see inertia in my images for today?

Now I have to overcome my inertia about explaining another reason why I chose “inertia” for today’s title.

Last night, my husband Michael and I were discussing “Bedazzled” — the great 1967 movie and song by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook.

The song, which both Michael and I love, includes the line “you fill me with inertia.”

When Michael told me the good news that Nick Cave and Anita Lane had recorded a version of “Bedazzled,” I eagerly looked it up, only to discover that the “inertia” line was missing!

I will now overcome my inertia to say that “Bedazzled” is still a great song without the inertia line and to express my appreciation to all who help me create this daily blog, including YOU.

Day 3573: That must have been scary

When I tell people about my experiences in the hospital when I was young, they often say, “That must have been scary.”

That must have been scary, I agree. However, I don’t remember being scared. I was so focused on trying to understand what was going on, connecting with others, and surviving the frequent hospitalizations and surgeries for my heart condition that I must have been disconnected from the fear.

I appreciate people saying, “That must have been scary.” That demonstrates empathy and allows me to acknowledge what I’ve been through. I may wish that people had said “that must have been scary” to me back then, but that must have been scary for them to do.

This morning, I woke up thinking about the phrase “that must have been scary” and decided to reframe that to “that must have been necessary.” Somehow, that makes things less scary for me, here and now.

Do you see anything that must have been scary or necessary in my images for today?

.

Learning something new, screenings, and breast exams: all scary AND necessary.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “that must have been scary.”

.

If you think that must have been scary searching through the videos that popped up for me on YouTube, you are correct. However, it was necessary for me to finish this blog post.

Thanks to all who help me deal with things that must have been scary, including YOU.

Day 3572: The latest news

The latest news is

  • work is progressing well on our upstairs bathroom repair,
  • Joan the cat wants to go out and play,
  • I want to go out and play,
  • I’m recovering nicely from recent medical scares,
  • the USA mid-term elections hang in the balance,
  • it’s the scariest time of the year, for so many reasons,
  • I have no plans to retire because I love my work so much,
  • I’m traveling down the Rhine River in May with people I love,
  • we broke our usual routine and went food shopping on a Tuesday,
  • I’ve schedule my booster shot and my license renewal for the same day,
  • I’m thoroughly enjoying The Bear, The Last Movie Stars, and Schitt’s Creek on TV,
  • I’ve discover the joys of bubble tea, and
  • the amazing Angela Lansbury passed away yesterday.

Do you see the latest news in my images for today?

The latest news is that there are soooo many National Days for October 12, 2022, including National Freethought Day (related to the Salem Witch trials, which is news to me).

It’s no news to me that the late Angela Lansbury was the definitive Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. The latest news is that this is the only version of “A Little Priest” on YouTube that includes that iconic performance.

And here she is performing “A Little Priest” (which is a good example of my sense of humor) in her late 70s:

The latest news is my sincere gratitude for all who helped me create this latest blog post, including YOU.
