Now that I’m UP, it’s UP to me to decide how I want to start UP today’s blog post.
Cases of COVID-19 are going UP, UP, UP.
People still haven’t given UP gathering inside and going maskless. It’s UPsetting how stUPid this is.
The number of failed lawsuits in trUmP’s attempts to foul UP the Presidential election is now UP to 50, at least.
Yesterday, I was informed that my stats here were going UP.
I am always UP for a walk, no matter the time or the weather, and yesterday I noticed that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is now standing UP…
… after being hung UP like this a few days ago:
Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, and Santa are now all UP for Christmas. Are you?
Yesterday, in my Coping and Healing group, people wanted to make UP a new name for themselves. I held UP this sign with a suggested name:
They were definitely UP for that reframe.
Now it’s time for me to put UP (or shut UP) my other pictures for today. What’s UP in these photos?
The Daily Bitch Calendar always gets me UP.
Today, I feel UP to calling the IRS about my long-delayed tax refund. I looked UP what might happen if identity thieves have stolen it. Cases of identity theft are going UP, and apparently the IRS is still UP to the task of fixing these UPsetting experiences. Also, it’s UP in the air exactly why my refund has been held UP for so long.
I will give you an UPdate about this tomorrow.
When I’m UP and out for a walk, I often listen to “The Way UP” by the Pat Metheny Group.
As always, I am UP for your comments, if you feel UP to leaving one.
I like to end UP every post with gratitude, so thanks to all who help me keep UP this daily blog, including YOU.
“Number thoughts” could mean thoughts about numbers OR thoughts that are more numb than others.
Another thought is that the news these days can be numbing.
The number in today’s title is the year that both my late parents were born.
2 days ago I tweeted these 19 words about numbers: “Doing your own taxes gives you the oppprtunity to calculate — with real numbers — how stupid you are about money.”
I thought that tweet was fine but now I see that the 8th word is a mistake.
My thoughts have now turned to the number of mistakes I’ve made in my life.
My thoughts about mistakes could be number (rather than more worried).
One of the 1st thoughts I had this morning was to imagine my thoughts floating by in a number of beautiful clouds in a clear blue sky.
A number of people have told me they find that exercise of imagining thoughts in clouds very helpful.
I took a number of photos yesterday.
Even though our cat Harley has seen me a number of times, he still thought I was an intruder when I returned home yesterday after spending a number of joyful hours with my ex-in-laws. I had that thought because he hissed at me through the window.
Here’s the 5th suggestion from YouTube about “Number Thoughts”:
Here’s one of a number of thoughts posted on YouTube about that clip from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:
At the very moment she says ’42’, guess how many minutes into the movie that is. Yep, I officially have no life.
I’m looking forward to a number of thoughts about today’s post.
No matter how numb a number of my thoughts might be, I always remember to end with thanks to all who helped me create today’s post and — of course! — YOU.
Despite my commitment to creating a daily blog post for the past nineteen hundred and thirteen days (but who’s counting?), I have written only one prior blog post about commitments. That was over four years ago, when I had made a commitment to blog daily for one year. At the end of 2013, I decided to expand the commitment to blog daily for as long as I could.
When things are getting in the way of your doing something, it can help to make a commitment to yourself or to others. For example, I’ve been having trouble committing to doing my taxes, so last Sunday I made this commitment to myself:
From now on, I shall work on my taxes one hour every day.
Because I have a commitment to the truth, I’ll tell you that after making that commitment I decided that commitment wouldn’t start until the next day However, I have honored that commitment every day since. And that commitment has helped me
work on my taxes,
leave room for other things in my life, and
let go of worry, angst, and other painful thoughts and feelings about taxes.
I’m not sure why I have a yearly commitment to feeling bad about taxes, but I’ve committed to writing other blog posts about that here, here, herehere.here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. While I made a commitment to link to those many other taxing blog posts I don’t expect anybody to make the commitment to reading all of them.
However, here’s a commitment that’s easier to fulfill — looking at my photos from yesterday. Let’s see if any of them show commitments.
I’m so happy I made a commitment last year to moving near the water.
Unable to overcome bureaucratic rules, as in Brad couldn’t get a permit without going through channels—you can’t fight City Hall! This term transfers the seat of city government to a more general sense of bureaucracy in any sphere. [Mid-1800s ]
Even though you can’t fight city hall, I went to City Hall yesterday (fighting snow and traffic) to fight an excessively high tax assessment of our new property on the South Shore of Boston.

Maybe there are two kinds of people in this world: Those who fight City Hall and those who don’t (like Bill, Bob, and Sally, above).
.
I can’t fight my urges to fight city hall and to take pictures everywhere, including City Hall:

You can’t fight the freeze in New England, so you might as well eat ice cream.
