Day 4266: Catastrophizing

Catastrophizing is second nature to me (and to other humans I know), so I wrote a song about it.

.

That is the live version of “Catastrophizing” that I performed with Nat Shirley at my June 1 concert. Here and now, I am catastrophizing about that video and people’s possible reactions to it. I’m also catastrophizing about downloading such a huge file to my poor old phone.

And please don’t get me started on my catastrophizing about the upcoming USA elections.

Here’s how I’ve been dealing with catastrophizing thoughts lately:

STOP CATASTROPHIZING !!!! IT DOESN’T HELP YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE!

That’s better.

Do you see any cat-astrophizing in my images for today?

.

Is the Daily Bitch catastrophizing? Are you?

Thanks to all who are here for this catastrophizing post, including YOU!

  1. I constantly catastrophize about my dog dying. Even though she’s only 3.

I see no catastrophizing in your photos – just a lovely clean tidy house and nice calm cats!

  2. “Catastrophizing” is probably my favorite or second favourite Ann song. And this video of your live performance is wonderful, second only to real life. I’m still pinching myself that I got to see you perform in person. In my living room! And also of course in my dining room over cake.

  3. When we expect the worst we feel better when it’s less than that … you got it, Ann! I’ll take a plain cheese pizza on cheese pizza day for sure, Ann.

  4. My second husband would always quip, on getting home after a journey and getting out of the car, “Cheated death again.” I am constantly imagining the possibilities of car accidents when I’m driving – I like to think it makes me extra careful. My son is certain that if I don’t lock all the doors in the house when he is gone that someone will break in and steal his stuff. Everyone in Chicago, when I lived there, locked all their doors all the time – not me. My catastrophe consisted of someone breaking in one door and me being unable to undo all the locks on the other one in time to get out. The election? I’m going to fill up my Kindle with vampire novels, just in case. And now I’m worried about WiFi in the apocalypse. Thanks a lot, Daily Bitch!

  5. Because I have a terrible record of making accurate predictions I always think that if I imagine the worst it won’t happen. It may not be the best approach but it’s worked so far.

  6. no sign of any catastrophizing seen in this post, other than your great song. and use that ‘cat’ energy for good –
