Day 4267: What matters

Yesterday, in a Coping and Healing group, people were talking about what matters to them. What mattered to me was pointing out how some of the members had been treated by others like they didn’t matter and how they mattered to other people in the group.

What also matters to me is getting this song out into the world.

Carol, who is harmonizing there on my song “Don’t Kill Yourself,” matters a great deal to me and has helped me realize how much I matter.

Do you see what matters in the other images I’m sharing today?

.

What matters to you?

Thanks to all who matter to me, including YOU.

  1. Here’s to you making a wonderful difference, Ann.

  2. That is a beautiful, moving video of “Don’t Kill Yourself (My Friend),” which is my absolute favourite of your songs although it is different than the others because to listen to it, I have to open a door to a time when I was suicidal; it feels like you are talking directly to a past me who is still often with me. Your words (“I still want you here”) are more effective than any I can remember hearing. I hope this song will become widely known and sung by many people. Including moms and dads and friends, as well as by Ann Koplow and, say, Joan Baez.

  3. Hey, Shellpaw! I’ve read “1177” too. Just now finishing a new history of the ancient middle east. “Weavers, Scribes and Kings.” Anyway, on what matters. It matters to me that in making a post, I say just what I mean to say. Got some fairly heavy pushback on Bluesky yesterday, when I praised Liz Cheney. Found this to use as a rejoinder if there is anymore today. “It’s critical to remember that those with differing views aren’t evil criminals or narcissists.” Also posted on Facebook that 5 lives were lost in Georgia – the four who were killed and the 14-year-old who killed them. There is no life worth living ahead for that young boy who threw it all away for … One moment of feeling powerful? Was that it? Too many folks responded that they wouldn’t waste their sympathy. I respond that sympathy is never wasted.

  4. You matter to me! All of my blogging friends matter to me a great deal! Great song, too Anne! X

  5. I thought of the lead-in to the song “Tubthumping”: “I thought that music mattered. But does it? Bollocks! Not compared to how people matter.” But your songs matter because they offer comfort and happiness to others. And you matter.
