Day 4022: Don’t Kill Yourself

When my son, Aaron, was home for the holidays, he said he wanted to hear a song called “Don’t Kill Yourself,” written by me. When I quickly wrote the first verse and chorus, he encouraged me with valuable feedback.

“Don’t kill yourself,” is something I would like to say to so many people, and perhaps an effective way to do that is through song.

.

Don’t kill yourself, because there are so many reasons to spend another day with us.

Even if you’re not that happy, don’t kill yourself.

Thanks to all who are here for this “Don’t Kill Yourself” post, including YOU.

  1. Having been there and made it through I found it easier to read the words of your song that to listen.

  2. Your song is beautiful just as you are! <3

  3. That’s a message worth sharing and receiving, Ann.

  4. such a very important song

  5. I have been there, or on the verge of there. Deciding that yes, this is the best thing to do, but not until I finish doing – I forget what. Then chiding myself for not having the guts or whatever to go through with it. The hardest part was realizing that I didn’t actually want to die – go away forever. But I did wish I didn’t have to be conscious through certain times. That was when I realized that I wasn’t suicidal, I was comacidal. A good coma would sure come in handy. And I don’t mean to mock anyone here who has been there and tried that. Yes, I made it into a joke of sorts. but I know full well that the misery is no joke at all.

  6. Your song is so powerful because it works in both literal and metaphorical terms. Literally there’s every reason to go on living, and metaphorically we should never give up on ourselves.

  7. An important message! No matter how grim today seems, surviving the tough times fortifies you for worse times because you become more confident that better times can come.
