Day 3540: Obsessing

This morning, I’m obsessing about re-packing my stuff and leaving Disney World to meet my old friend Deb at the Jacksonville Airport to start phase 2 of my September vacation adventure on some islands off the coast of Georgia. Usually, I might be obsessing about the content and clarity of that first sentence, but I’ve got to keep moving before the rental car pick-up time of 8:15, so let’s see if today’s Daily Bitch calendar has anything to say about obsessing.

Here is what I’m obsessing about in the moment:

  • Whether I’m repacking things in a way that will make them accessible to me when I need them.
  • How my phone plan emailed me that I have already used 80% of my data for the month, which makes no sense.
  • Whether I’ll remember to make myself available to the people who are covering my groups next week in case they need an access code from me when they try to start a remote group.
  • How I keep getting a message on my laptop that my disk is almost full.
  • Technology in general.
  • Decisions about how to remodel our upstairs bathroom now that we’ve gotten the go-ahead from the insurance company.
  • Insurance companies in general.
  • Decisions in general.
  • How likely it is I’ve caught COVID again hanging around crowds of people at Disney World.
  • The health and well-being of everybody I care about.
  • Whether I’ll be prepared for a virtual meeting the day I get back from vacation about doing groups to help prevent doctor burnout.
  • How clumsy my thumbs are typing out this blog post on my phone.

Whenever I’m obsessing, I write the thoughts down to get them out of my head so that I can move ahead with a clear mind, like now.

Do you see obsessing in any of my other images for today?

Happy National Swap Ideas Day as perhaps we’ll swap ideas about obsessing, below.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “obsessing.”

Thanks to all who help me stop obsessing every day, including YOU!

Day 3539: Aha moments

I’ve had many aha moments in my life, including:

  • life is short, so don’t waste any of it,
  • nature sustains us and we better do our best to sustain it,
  • most people are mostly good,
  • all healing is mutual, so self care is never selfish,
  • we can’t control anybody’s behavior except our own,
  • we are all so caught up in our own experience that it takes hard work to understand and communicate effectively with others,
  • people feel alone sometimes but no one is alone,
  • repressed and disowned feelings will surface eventually,
  • we all fear people who seem different from us until we open ourselves up to how connected we are,
  • we unconsciously absorb biases from our cultures and our families so we need to be aware of them and challenge them constantly,
  • it hurts to lose someone, even those I don’t know (like Queen Elizabeth),
  • it’s not so much a matter of where you are but who you are with, and
  • the best place to be is the here and now.

Aha! I just found this definition of “aha moments”:

Do you see any aha moments in my images for today?

Today is my late father’s birthday and I’m very grateful I shared so many aha moments with him before he died.

Several people on Twitter mentioned this song in response to my question about aha moments:

Thanks to all who help me blog daily about my aha moments, including YOU.

Day 3538: I will never get over this

I will never get over how great it is being back at Disney World, where I saw this yesterday:

I said to my niece Laura that I didn’t expect to see “I will never get over this” — which I immediately associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder — at the “Happiest Place on Earth.” However, I realized that it’s very possible to never get over wonderful experiences, too.

Apparently, I will never get over catastrophizing (imagining the worst case scenario), especially when I’m stressed. Yesterday morning, when the Lyft driver showed up earlier than I expected to take me to the airport, I rushed out the door and then worried that our cat Joan might have gotten out and been attacked by the coyote that was on the street. During the drive to the airport, I tried to talk myself out of that very far fetched possibility.

I will never get over how the mind can make up unlikely scenarios even when there is little evidence or data to support them.

I tried to get over this by texting my husband Michael at home.

I will never get over this: I wish my wonderful late parents had been able to meet my hilarious and adorable husband Michael.

Here are the rest of my images for today’s “I Will Never Get Over This” blog post.

I will never get over how many National Days there are & I will never get over how it’s also World Ampersand Day.

Here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “I will never get over this.”

I will never get over my gratitude for all those who help me create this daily blog, including YOU!

Day 3537: No Worry, No Hurry

Two night ago, when I had trouble sleeping, I wrote lyrics to a new song, “No Worry, No Hurry.”

No worry, no hurry as I share these lyrics with you before taking off for the airport this morning.

No worry, no hurry,

Don’t care what they think.

Those fears you should bury,

That shame you can shrink.

You don’t need to scurry

And do everything.

No worry, no hurry,

Just smile, breathe, and blink.

If you close your eyes

You might see what I see:

A landscape that offers

Sweet tranquility.

Awareness, acceptance,

Just waiting for me.

No worry, no hurry,

The chance to be free.

No worry, no hurry,

No need to be scared.

No need to apologize

For things that you’ve dared.

You don’t need perfection

For protection, my friend.

No worry, no hurry,

There’s peace without end.

©️ Ann Koplow, 2022

No worry, no hurry about checking out my images for today.

No worry, no hurry and no snow, no rain on National Neither Snow Nor Rain Day.

No worry, no hurry about finding something relevant on YouTube before my Lyft driver shows up to take me to the airport.

Thanks to all who help me have no worry, no hurry, including YOU!

Day 3536: Another look

On National Another Look Unlimited Day, I’ll take another look at

  • what I’m packing and not packing for my 10-day trip, which starts tomorrow,
  • what I need to do around the house before I leave for Florida and Georgia,
  • the lyrics I wrote last night for a new song titled “Don’t Worry, Don’t Hurry,”
  • the numbers for my blog titles (if I started this daily blog on 1/1/13, shouldn’t the current number be lower?) (thanks to my loyal reader Debbie T and myself, this has been solved and fixed!),
  • everything I’m going to miss while I’m away, and
  • the images I captured yesterday for today’s blog.

I love how the Daily Bitch takes another look at everything, including National Another Look Unlimited Day.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “another look.”

Now I’m going to take another look at this 1990s photo of Gary Burton, my old business partner Jonathan, and me:

I’ll take another look at the comments section later in the day.

Here’s another look at the gratitude I have for all who visit this blog, including YOU.

Day 3535: National Be Late For Something Day

Happy National Be Late For Something Day, everybody!

.

I usually feel bad about being late — stressing too much out about being on time (if not early) — so I definitely need to celebrate National Be Late For Something Day. I’ll do that today by being late posting the National Days on Twitter (which I try to do every day at 9 AM, Eastern Time). And I’ll try not to worry about being on time for anything else today.

Right before I started today’s blog, I scheduled my Lyft ride to get to Logan Airport two hours before my flight to Florida on Wednesday, which is NOT National Be Late for Something Day.

Do any of my images capture the spirit of National Be Late For Something Day?

.

I’m going to be late celebrating National Cheese Pizza Day.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “National Be Late For Something Day.”

.

How are you going to celebrate National Be Late For Something Day? Feel free to be late commenting on this blog.

Thanks to everyone who has ever been late for something, including YOU.

Day 3534: What’s going on?

Yesterday, as I was trying to figure out what’s going on in the world, I saw this at a local college:

.

Let’s see what’s going on in my other images for today.

.

In case you forgot the title of today’s post, here’s “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye.

.

What’s going on here, now, is gratitude for all of you.

Day 3533: Balance

Yesterday, as I was trying to balance my needs with other people’s needs, I

  • balanced providing individual and group therapy at the Boston hospital where I work,
  • helped prepare my two wonderful co-workers who will be covering three of my groups while I’m on vacation for two weeks,
  • had the delicious macaroni and cheese at the hospital cafeteria for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic (because they only serve it on Fridays and I usually work remotely from my home on Fridays),
  • met with my new electrophysiologist/cardiologist, Dr. Peter Zimetbaum, at the hospital where I work, and
  • felt very relieved about how knowledgeable, encouraging, and willing Dr. Zimetbaum was to collaborate with my long-time cardiologist, Dr. Deeb Salem, who works at a different Boston hospital.

On balance, it was a terrific day.

Do you see balance in my images for today?

.

Leave it to today’s Daily Bitch to have the last word on balance.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “balance.”

I also find this:

Balanced thanks to all who help me keep my balance every day, including YOU!

Day 3532: Better than expected

Considering that today is my last work day before my two-week vacation, I’m definitely feeling better than expected. Usually I’m more nervous about getting everything done before I take time off.

Last night on Twitter, I asked a question about things working out better than expected.

Joan’s harness and leash are working out better than expected, because the harness is so easy to put on and and it’s allowing her to safely explore the great outdoors. I can’t read her mind, but I’m assuming Joan’s life is now better than expected.

Are my other images for today better than expected?

.

I doubt I’ll be able to be a lazy mom today, but I hope work will turn out better than expected.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “better than expected.”

Better-than-expected thanks to all who help me feel better every day, including YOU!
