Day 3854: Snubs

For whatever reason, I’ve been thinking a lot about snubs lately, especially the reported snubs of a very successful actor.

.

An article I read last week lamenting the surprising snubs by the Emmy awards of Harrison Ford for his role as an elderly therapist in Shrinking led me to watch that series, and now I can’t stop thinking about the snubs. That’s how good he was in it. Also, I’m surprised about the snubs he’s getting from the world as people are staying away in droves from the latest and last Indiana Jones movie, which I really enjoyed.

I wonder whether these snubs are related to the fact that Harrison Ford is 80 years old, because older people experience so many snubs.

I’ve been so concerned about Harrison Ford’s feelings about these snubs that I have to keep reminding myself that he is most likely not thinking about them at all.

In the meantime, I dreamed last night that I got snubs from many people when I performed my original songs for them. Somebody I know said, “These songs are NOT good” as she walked out in disgust. I tried to get the rest of the audience to stay, but the responses were all snubs.

The reality is that we learn to survive snubs, including internalized biases like ageism, sexism, racism, Anti-Semitism, and homophobia. And the more we put ourselves out there, the more snubs we’ll encounter.

And I’m pretty sure that Harrison Ford is okay.

Do you see snubs in any of my images for today?

.

Today’s Daily Bitch is all about snubs and here’s what I find when I search YouTube for “snubs.”

.

Thanks to all who help me deal with snubs, including YOU.

Day 3790: What therapists don’t say

I just read a New York Times article titled “What Therapists Don’t Say.” There seems to be some fascination with that — the premise of the TV show Shrinking is that “a grieving therapist starts to break the rules by telling his clients exactly what he thinks.”

What I don’t say, in an individual therapy session, includes

  • You think that’s bad? Let me tell you about my problems!
  • I’m distracted.
  • I’m afraid you really don’t want to change.
  • You should do this.
  • I don’t think I can help you.
  • I wish I were doing something else.
  • That hurts my feelings.
  • I have to pee (this one was mentioned in the New York Times article).

I don’t say any of those things because (1) they are passing, momentary thoughts and (2) unhelpful. Also, when I have a thought that I don’t say, I take it as important information — often a window into what the other person is feeling.

Do you see anything that therapists don’t say in my images for today?

Sometimes I do say a World Holiday or what the Daily Bitch says in a therapy session, if it’s relevant.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “what therapists don’t say.”

Now I’m wondering what you would say in the comments section, below.

Here’s something I say every day:
