Nobody likes to be found out, not even one who has made ruthless confession a part of his profession. Any autobiographer, therefore, at least between the lines, spars with his reader and potential judge.
Confession Time! Whenever I present quotes, I arrange them by the birthdate of the person I’m quoting.
Yesterday I declared “Confession Time!” on Twitter:
Confession Time! Here and now, I can’t include any other images and I don’t know if I can publish this blog post. WordPress keeps confessing, “You are probably offline” although I don’t see how that is true. I confess that I can’t upload anything from my laptop or my phone and I confess this has never happened before in all my years of daily blogging.
Confession time! I wanted to write a quick blog post this morning so I could watch a special presentation about the musical “Rent.” Oh well.
Confession Time! No photos doesn’t prevent my from quoting the Daily Bitch Calendar for today: “Why is being alive so expensive? I’m not even having a good time!”
Since it is confession time, are there any confessions you’d like to make in the comments section, below?
It’s always gratitude time, so thanks to all the people I quoted, above, and thanks to YOU.
One thousand, five hundred and seventeen days ago (but who’s counting?), I published Day 1005: What is success?Because I’m feeling self-confident today, I think it’s time to revisit success.
Common Sense is that which judges the things given to it by other senses. — Leonardo Da Vinci
I read, I study, I examine, I listen, I think, and out of all that I try to form an idea into which I put as much common sense as I can. — Marquis de Lafayette
Society is always taken by surprise at any new example of common sense. — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Common sense is the most fairly distributed thing in the world, for each one thinks he is so well-endowed with it that even those who are hardest to satisfy in all other matters are not in the habit of desiring more of it than they already have. — René Descartes
Philosophy is common sense with big words. — James Madison
Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age 18. — Albert Einstein
Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense. — Gertrude Stein
It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office. — H. L. Mencken
Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing. — Clive James
Do you seen any common (or uncommon) sense in my photos from yesterday?
Was it common sense for me to invite people in a therapy group last night to express what makes them cry and what makes them laugh? I didn’t have the common sense to photograph more things on my list of what makes me laugh.
Last week, at one of my therapy groups, somebody said to me,
You’re nothing if not consistent, Ann.
I guess I am consistent. That is, there are things I seem to do consistently, including:
I check definitions of words, to make sure we’re all on the same page (or screen):
consistent
[kuh n-sis-tuh nt]
adjective
1. agreeing or accordant; compatible; not self-contradictory: His views and actions are consistent.
2. constantly adhering to the same principles, course, form, etc.: a consistent opponent.
3. holding firmly together; cohering.
4. Archaic. fixed; firm.
I take a few tries to find a definition that seems good enough and translates easily into a post here.
I play around with formatting these posts, in order to make them easier to read and understand (despite my naturally meandering and consistently varied thoughts).
I hear what people say, and some things seem to stick more than others.
When something sticks, I wonder about it. For example, when somebody says:
You are nothing if not ____________
… does that mean that if you are NOT that thing, that you are …. NOTHING?
What do you think?
I think not.
Because, it’s impossible for any one of us to be NOTHING. I mean, it’s just simple math.
1 ≠ 0
Mathematically, that reminds me of this: my faithful and amazing reader Maureen a/k/a Sitting on My Own Sofa a/k/a Mom Learns Math has started a new WordPress blog, which I highly recommend.
That paragraph demonstrates something else I do, consistently: link to the same place multiple times, for emphasis (although, not always).
I’m also consistent with this: trying to capture the moon (as in those last four photos).
Another consistency (foolish, hobgoblin, or otherwise)? My love for music. And I hope I am consistent in posting music that fits my topics, well enough.
I forgot another consistency: inviting audience involvement, in an authentic way. What music (or image or anything else) might YOU choose, for today’s topic?
