Day 4544: Managing Expectations

I have found that managing expectations — mine and others — really works. Otherwise, my head is filled with assumptions about what I should or shouldn’t do.

When I was a Social Work intern, I witnessed a seasoned clinician naming what he would and wouldn’t do, very effectively managing expectations.

Here’s how I’ll be managing expectations for today’s blog: I will include my Twitter questions from yesterday, but no responses. Also, I don’t have many photos to share because I was too busy working and getting used to my new phone.

Today, I am dictating this blog for the first time rather than typing it, and I’m managing expectations about how that’s going to go.

I think I’ve done enough managing expectations for now, so here are my images for today.

.

Did anybody expect that the Daily Bitch would be managing expectations?

Now I’ll be managing expectations about this performance of my original song “Artificial Intelligence” — the sound and video quality are not professional (but they might be good enough).

.

What are your thoughts and feelings about managing expectations?

Thanks to political cartoonist Michael Ramirez and to all who are here for this managing-expectations blog post, including YOU!

  1. I love your new song, Artificial Intelligence! It might be my new favourite

I am trying to manage expectations of myself for Saturday. I have a two-wheeled walker that seems sturdy enough, so I’m hoping to go to the No Kings March for about an hour – going slowly and looking for place to sit, but I should be able to go forward at least half an hour. I do it leaning on a grocery cart every week. Still mulling it over, though.

  3. That’s a great cartoon. So sad really.

Managing expectations. I have learned to not have expectations of people. Over time, my ‘heroes’ have fallen from their pedestals while my villains have demonstrated humanity. So I do not expect anything from anyone.

It seems as if that may be a bit cynical and jaded. I see it as self-defense. Protection. I know, it is a good way to check out. And why not, even if for a little while. Humans have left me nonplussed.

  5. I spy Joan in her fancy hood, kind of like her Joan Crawford self in a classic film. and I expect to be a peaceful protester in a sea of peaceful protesters on saturday

  6. My dear wife Karen and I enjoyed corn on the cob, Ann, and I didn’t know it was its day until I read your blog.
