I forgot why I decided to call this post “I forgot.”
Wait! I remember.
I forgot to check the celebrity gossip yesterday. I also forgot to share yesterday’s Daily Bitch Calendar.
I forgot to mention that I think there are many delicate balances in life.
I forgot what that off-shore structure was for (if I ever knew), but I didn’t forget to take more photos of it yesterday for the amazing blogger Christopher Waldrop (who mentioned it in a comment about yesterday’s post).
I forgot most of the episodes of Breaking Bad because I binge-watched them so I could watch the final episode with Michael and Aaron.
I forgot that we bought a silver pen so that the star of Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston, could sign that hat, but he forgot to come out and meet fans after a performance of the play All the Way in Cambridge before its Broadway opening. I forgot whether that was the only time he didn’t come out during the Cambridge run of the play, but I think so.
I forgot to feel sad about Oscar’s cancer yesterday, because he is doing so well.
I forgot why yesterday was an all-day “New Event” in my calendar.
Don’t forget: every day is an all-day new event.
I forgot whether the rest of my photos from yesterday fit today’s topic.
I forgot to ask a question from that book in my Coping and Healing group yesterday.
I forgot to take off those socks before my Coping and Healing group, but nobody could see them anyway.
I forgot to practice keyboards.
I forgot to read more of that excellent book about how the body remembers trauma.
I forgot how the ocean looks so different, every friggin’ day.
I forgot to remind you how awesome you are.
I almost forgot to share that photo of Michael’s latest cooking masterpiece. I forgot to eat crunchy snacks yesterday because Michael’s vegetables are so satisfyingly crunchy.
While I’ve already written several previous blog posts with “Leave” in the title (here, here, here, here, and here), I couldn’t leave well enough alone, mostly because
Because I don’t like to leave everything up to chance, I asked my son — who is leaving soon for India and then Edinburgh — to help me create a relevant image for today’s post.
If you don’t like posts with lots of photos, you should leave now. If you don’t leave, you might notice that many of yesterday’s photos have to do with today’s title, in one way or another.
When I think a meeting is bullshit, I want to leave.
Now that we’ve found our new home by the sea, I never want to leave.
My son Aaron will soon be leaving on a jet plane.
Batman probably wants to leave the cat shelter as soon as possible.
Because I need to leave the house soon, I’ll leave it up to you to notice the connections with “leave” in the rest of my photos.
I wonder how many readers will leave this post before all the photos load?
Before I leave my blogging for the day, I want to leave thanks for all who helped me create today’s post and — of course! — for YOU.
Yesterday, when I was thinking and doing random crap in NYC with my excellent friend Jeanette, I said to her, “‘Random Crap’ is the title of tomorrow’s blog.”
That was not totally random crap on my part, because Jeanette and I had both noticed this Random Crap bag in the window of a random NYC store.
Here are some random thoughts about “Random Crap”:
Through our lives, we accumulate a lot of random crap.
Many of our thoughts are random crap.
We worry about a lot of random crap.
This blog could conceivably be renamed “The Year(s) of Random Crap.”
Some of the random crap in this blog is not as random as it might initially seem. For example, I deliberately took my first two photos yesterday for non-random reasons.
Those are two worry dolls I found as I was cleaning out some random crap from my bag before I left for NYC. I photographed them because (1) I want to stop worrying and (2) they look like me and Jeanette.
I took this photo in the parking lot of the Amtrak station near Boston because today is Mother’s Day and my late mother was THE cleaning authority. There were a lot of random jokes about my mother’s neatness including this one of my late father’s: “I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and when I came back your mother had made the bed.”
I think my blog can seem like random crap especially when I randomly avoid photographing the famous landmarks that most people do. Can you find the one thing many people photograph when they’re in New York among all the random crap below?
If you know your shit and spotted the famous NYC landmark in all the random crap above, please consider leaving a random comment, below.
This may seem like more random crap, but one of the random stores Jeanette and I walked into yesterday was displaying these earrings
AND the exact same socks I had decided to wear that morning.
When I randomly told Jeanette that I love those socks and that I also own socks that say “THIS MEETING IS BULLSHIT,” Jeanette revealed what socks she was wearing.
So maybe all this crap we encounter in life is not so random after all.
There’s no randomness about my commitment to end each blog post with thanks to all who help me create the random crap I share every day and — of course! — to all who read it, like YOU.
Sometimes, if I’m feeling down, I go to a favorite restaurant. Last night, when Michael and I were at our favorite Chinese restaurant, I looked down and saw this:
Things DO look up if you look up an old friend. Try it if you’re feeling down.
When I was younger, I’d escape in a book if I was feeling down.
These days, blogging and taking pictures are a perfect cure for feeling down.
Those of us who are down with taking Coumadin need to get our blood checked regularly. A perfect INR of 3.1 — not too down and not too up — is another perfect cure for feeling down.
If I’m feeling down, sometimes I wear interesting socks.
My Coumadin nurse, Kathleen, looked down yesterday and felt less down when she saw my socks.
That’s Kathleen, looking down at her phone as she takes a picture of those socks and sends it to her old friend who was feeling down sitting in a bullsh*t meeting at the hospital.
