Day 4667: Community

Since I joined the blogging community 14 years ago, I’ve writing several blog posts about community, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever shared this definition.

Community has been life-sustaining for me, from the hospital community that helped me and my parents go through my childhood cardiac issues, through my communities of friends and neighbors, to my work communities where I have built healing communities of therapy groups.

What communities do you see in my photos for today?

I went to my community Urgent Care clinic to investigate my oddly blue finger.

I actually proposed this theory to the perplexed community doctor.

I enjoy seeing the community of humans and animals at pet stores.

Phyllis and Brian are now part of my community of neighbors, friends, and fans because I sang “Everybody’s Somebody’s Asshole” for them!

Joan loves to go outside and explore our community.

I saw this written on a wall in the community where we find my favorite restaurant, Brassica Kitchen.

Brassica has just moved to a new location in the same community.

My husband and I are honored to be part of the community of Brassica’s friends and family.

Josh, who is an amazing server AND an artist, is part of the wonderful Brassica community.

We took a photo to show our membership in the Brassica community.

Every night, I ask a question for my Twitter community.

Every day, I share holidays and observances with this community and others.

Today, on October 12, I am going to join the community of people bereaved by the loss of beloved group leader and teacher Eleanor Counselman in a memorial service.

Day 4647: What I see

What I see is influenced by my past, the present, other people, expectations, hopes, needs, wants, and unseen factors.

I try to convey what I see in these daily blog posts.

This is what I see for today.

Day 3150: Desperate for Good News

Are you desperate for good news?

If so, you’re not alone. Yesterday, I was so desperate for good news that I tweeted this:

As you can see, I got many responses, which was very good news. I really, really needed that, especially after I had tweeted this earlier in the day …

… which got four times more responses than my request for good news.

Every day has good news and bad news. What news do you see in my other images for today?

Here’s some good news: whenever you desperately ask yourself the question “What the fuck is wrong with you/me?” the answer is always “nothing.”

That’s good news that our Harley (who looks a lot like blind kitties Melvin and Scout) will likely stop hissing at our new cat Joan.

I’m less desperate, here and now, but would still appreciate any good news you choose to share.

Day 3089: Many happy returns

I have many happy returns to share in today’s post, including the return of my son Aaron from Scotland to Boston.

I was happy to return yesterday to my home work desk, Twitter, Wollaston Beach, the Kindness Rocks Project, Logan Airport, and Facebook; Aaron was happy to return to our home; and Harley was happy to return to our couches (if not happy about Aaron’s return).

I’m happy you’ve returned here today to share in our happiness.

The Daily Bitch is happy to return on this many happy returns day.

Stephen Colbert was happy to return to the studio after being away for 460 days.

Day 2982: What are you craving these days?

Day 2905: Views

The views expressed in this blog belong to me and do not necessarily represent the views of others.

People express their views in many different ways and through many different media.

These days especially, I wonder how open people are to views different from their own.

In this world, the views of some are considered more valuable than the views of others.

It takes work to express your views effectively.

When expressing your views to others, try using “I”-statements rather than “You”-statements. For example, “I feel strongly about this” rather than “You are wrong” or “You’re an idiot.”

I’ve noticed that people tend to express negative views more often than positive views. In my view, it helps to express appreciation and gratitude.

Four years ago, I decided it was necessary for my mental health to move to a place with ocean views.

Yesterday, the views expressed in this blog got 196 views, with 1.76 views per visitor. At this writing, this daily blog has received 436,222 views since I started it almost eight years ago. “The best views ever,” according to my WordPress stats, happened on June 21, 2020 and the most views for a month were 8,700 during November 2015. I don’t usually view my blogging statistics, so these views are a surprise to me.

Day 2855: Endure

I keep noticing this rock, which endures in the enduring Kindness Rock Project near our home:

The only other time I’ve used the word “endure” in a blog title was Day 1409: Adapt and Endure, which I published the day after Donald Trump became the U.S. President four years ago.

I, having endured many medical scares and challenges through 2016, also posted this enduring (and, I hope, endearing) message back then on Facebook:

“I survived open heart surgery for THIS?”

As we approach November 2020, let’s think about what we have endured over the last four years. Has it been an AFOG (Another F-ing Opportunity for Growth)? An irredeemable disaster? Something else? Your answer may depend on how you tend to endure.
