Day 4880: Definitions of Success

Yesterday, author/former student/current friend Chris Delyani and I discussed his books, my music, and definitions of success.

Our definitions of success tended more to quality (people being moved by our works) over quantity (numbers). I think Chris and I would agree that both our lives have been a success.

My definitions of success include staying connected with wonderful people and it’s so great to see Chris (whom I taught at Boston University in the 1980s) make such a success of his life.

Do you see definitions of success in my images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “definitions of success” on YouTube:

.

I know that this definition of success from Paris is Burning had a huge impact on my successful friend Chris:

Day 4695: Fabulous

Yesterday, when I was spending a fabulous day with my fabulous, life-long friend Barbara, I saw this:

.

Barbara and I agree that we are both still fabulous after all the fabulous and not-so-fabulous things we have survived together.

What is the most fabulous image in today’s post?

.

Barbara and I both thought The Wicked Pickers, who were playing at Arlington Open Studios yesterday, were fabulous.

.

.

Thanks to all the fabulous people who read this blog, including YOU!

Day 4466: Expectations

I had expectations about finally making it to Italy with friends — that the food, the company, and the art would meet high expectations and so far, so great.

Yesterday, I told my friends that I try to lower my expectations for every experience and that way I’m pleasantly surprised.

Sometimes my expectations are based on worst cast scenarios; sometimes they’re based on something that has rarely happened.

Sometimes experiences are beyond my expectations. For example, I had no expectation that my first meal in Italy would include pizza with French fries on it.

I wonder what expectations you might have for today’s blog post.

.

I had expectations for the awesomeness of Roman churches, cathedrals and basilicas and here’s a video about the basilica of St. Mary Major, which we wandered into yesterday.

.

I don’t know if you have expectations about the comments in YouTube about this video, but here they are:

.

I wonder if I’m exceeding your expectations by including another video about the Basilica of St. Mary Major:

Thanks to all who are here for this expectations post, including YOU.

Day 4465: Where I am

I’m in Italy! Let’s see what the Daily Bitch has to say on this momentous day.

.

Actually, I think I’m in the right place at the right time (despite the time difference and not being able to sleep on the plane).

Where I am is a place where I can share these day-before Italy images with you.

I’m glad that that on the International Day for Achievers that I’ve achieved my dream of visiting Italy. Now I need to explore Rome with those other international achievers, Janet, Ray, and Jeanette.

Thanks to all for being here where I am no matter where you are.

Day 4464: It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with

My husband Michael, whom I’ve been with since 2010, has many helpful sayings, including:

  • “It’s never what you expect,”
  • “First guess, best guess,”
  • “There will be trials and tribulations,” and
  • “It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with.”

“It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with” is reassuring to me today, as I experience my usual nervousness about leaving home to go to a strange and unfamiliar place (even though that place is Italy, which I’ve always wanted to visit). It helps to know I’ll be with three long-time, wonderful friends — Jeanette, Janet, and Ray — whom I was with at film school in the 80’s.

And even though I won’t be with Michael and our two cats in Italy, I’ll be with them through the magic of FaceTime.

Are you with me here as I share my images for today?

.

I am with my cuddly kitten on Cuddly Kitten Day, for now.

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “it’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with” on YouTube:

.

It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with and thanks to all who are with me today, including YOU!

Day 4303: Giving

In a world where some people are all about taking, I love giving my time to beautifully giving people like my life-long friend, Barbara.

.

That photo was taken by a giving guy who was also giving his attention to three dogs.

.

Barbara and I have been giving each other support for close to 70 years and I’m always giving thanks for my friendship with her.

.

Yesterday we were both giving thanks for nature giving us such a beautiful day.

.

Do you see giving in my other images for today?

.

On Good Samaritan Day and Treat Yo’ Self Day, I’m giving a shout out to giving to others AND to yourself.

My giving music producer Riccardo Pearlman is giving me clips like this to share on TikTok:

.

After giving some time to that, I just posted it on TikTok! I need to be giving more thought about how to get more traction there.

Here’s a link to my current TikTok profile:

Any comments about this giving blog post or advice about TikTok you might be giving below?

As usual, I’m giving thanks to all my wonderful readers, including YOU!

Day 4276: Let Your Light Shine

Yesterday morning, I was practicing Qigong with a YouTube video that ended with the instructor describing how to let your light shine into the universe.

Then, on a walk through my neighborhood, I saw this:

.

Later, I let my light shine by spending time with light-shining friends Janet and Ray at lunch and then a 50th anniversary showing of Mel Brooks’s Blazing Saddles.

Now I will try to let light shine with the other images I captured yesterday.

Letting your light shine, Daily Bitch style.

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “let your light shine” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all who let their light shine, including YOU!

Day 4170: Roborant

The word of the day yesterday was “roborant” …

… and it was a very roborant day.

.

To celebrate my roborant day, I’m going to have my favorite ice cream — Rocky Road.

I have no videos to post from my concert, yet, so here’s what I find when I search for “roborant” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all those who are a roborant for me, including YOU!!!

Day 3814: Finally…

I saw a great sign yesterday with a Mary Oliver quote that starts with “Finally…”

Finally… I saw (again!) that worrying had come to nothing. So I took my old body (and young cat) out for a walk, checked out an open house, sang, had a cookout with people I love, and finally reunited with my dear friend Ada after a too-long absence.

.

Finally…I’ll rise, but I will be shining with gratitude for all who make my life better, including YOU!

Day 3785: What makes me happy

What makes me happy includes

  • my family,
  • getting to do work I love,
  • living near the water,
  • being healthy and pain-free at my age, and
  • friends like Barbara.

Yesterday, it made me happy to spend the day with Barbara in my old stomping grounds of Belmont, Massachusetts. Barbara and I shared what makes us happy — including our both making it to age 70, realizing it’s okay for us to coast after working so hard in our lives, and appreciating that we are both in each other’s inner circle of important connections after over 65 years of friendship!

Can you see what makes me happy in my other images for today?

Migratory birds make me happy, including snowy egrets.

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “what makes me happy.”

What makes you happy?

Thanks to all those who make me happy, including YOU!
