My husband Michael, whom I’ve been with since 2010, has many helpful sayings, including:
- “It’s never what you expect,”
- “First guess, best guess,”
- “There will be trials and tribulations,” and
- “It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with.”
“It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with” is reassuring to me today, as I experience my usual nervousness about leaving home to go to a strange and unfamiliar place (even though that place is Italy, which I’ve always wanted to visit). It helps to know I’ll be with three long-time, wonderful friends — Jeanette, Janet, and Ray — whom I was with at film school in the 80’s.
And even though I won’t be with Michael and our two cats in Italy, I’ll be with them through the magic of FaceTime.
