Day 4464: It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with

My husband Michael, whom I’ve been with since 2010, has many helpful sayings, including:

  • “It’s never what you expect,”
  • “First guess, best guess,”
  • “There will be trials and tribulations,” and
  • “It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with.”

“It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with” is reassuring to me today, as I experience my usual nervousness about leaving home to go to a strange and unfamiliar place (even though that place is Italy, which I’ve always wanted to visit). It helps to know I’ll be with three long-time, wonderful friends — Jeanette, Janet, and Ray — whom I was with at film school in the 80’s.

And even though I won’t be with Michael and our two cats in Italy, I’ll be with them through the magic of FaceTime.

Are you with me here as I share my images for today?

.

I am with my cuddly kitten on Cuddly Kitten Day, for now.

Here’s what I find when I search for “it’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with” on YouTube:

It’s not where you are, it’s who you’re with and thanks to all who are with me today, including YOU!

  1. I am with you, wherever you are. Have a great time, Ann!

  2. A glass of clean water to drink from my tap, Ann is a pretty good body of water to me every time. Enjoy your trip to Italy and time with your longtime friends!

I did almost all of my traveling alone, except for one delightful trip I took with my daughter Caroine and her bestie, Jeanie. I rented a car for Turkey, but we also went to Greece. I remember Caroline asking photographer Jeanie why she kept taking pictures of the poppies on the Acropolis, and Jeanie replying: “The way they’re dressed. They’re asking for it.” https://www.barbarasbookhouse.com/Speaking-of-Greece

  4. My favorite body of water might be Radnor Lake which was manmade in the early 20th century for the railroad but has since become a wildlife refuge and community park open to everyone. Even by myself I’m happy there, but on the subject of whom you’re with, I like Carolyn Forche’s “For The Stranger”.

  5. I am so glad you’re going on a trip with friends to Italy. Lucky you!
