Day 4767: Memories

Because I’m a psychotherapist, I bear witness to people’s memories. Because I specialize in group therapy, I witness people making new memories as they join in community with each other.

Because I’m a blogger, I share daily memories with you.

.

Here are some of the favorite memories I named above:

.

Thanks to all who are here for these memories, including YOU!

Best memory: So many. Aside from the nurse, I was the first to hold my son (my wife had a C Section and was being stitched up). Wedding day. My first punk show at the local University- coming up on 40yrs ago…

I am a bibliophile of the worst order. I have books I want to read, books that are in various stages of being read. I will say I have read more in the period since Covid than I did in all the years prior to Covid.

In honor of the week of MLK Day, I remember going to an Operation Breadbasket meeting in Chicago with my two-year-old son, Christopher. Operation Breadbasket was the Chicago branch of the SCLC’s economic arm run by Jesse Jackson. On this particular day, a special guest was Eartha Kitt, fresh off her luncheon with Lady Bird Johnson and now infamous for making anti-Vietnam War comments there. At one point, she spotted Chris, in my arms, and swooped down, picked him up, and carried him around the room, saying something about the future of the children, I think. He *was* a cute kid! 🙂

  3. It’s a strange thing but I have a happy memory of something that happened to someone else. A girl I knew in high school was into skateboarding. She wrote a fan letter to a skateboarder she admired and got a very nice, personal response from him. He thanked her and said skateboarding was for everyone, that she should never feel like she didn’t belong.
I’d never heard of Tony Hawk before that but to this day, every time I see him, I think he embodied some of the values Dr. King talked about.

  4. I enjoy sharing the memories each day with you Anne!
