I sang “You Don’t Scare Me “ in Brookline yesterday and wasn’t scared when
- my reserved parking space was full,
- a phone rep from SpotHero took me on a wild goose chase to find another spot,
- somebody at the protest in Brookline said she was one of the organizers and told me to stop singing,
- other people who were organizers overruled her and told me to keep sharing my music,
- an unfriendly guy kept taking pictures of me when I was singing,
- I connected with many strangers,
- I handed out “Singing Therapist” cards with links to my music,
- I returned to the second parking lot to find that my car had been towed,
- I called SpotHero and was told that the phone rep had told me to park in the wrong spots,
- I spoke to the police and the tow company who were kind of scary,
- I took a Lyft to go to the scary towing company,
- I had a very interesting conversation with the scary owner of the tow company which ended in my giving him my “Singing Therapist Card” and comparing IQ’s, and
- I cried at dinner with Michael as I told him about my day.
You don’t scare me, scary world!

You don’t scare me, September 21, 2025!
… and Aaron’s old jellyfish costume.
You don’t scare me, YouTube, when you give me this new error message when I try to share videos.

I am so grateful to people who don’t scare me, including YOU!

That is the least heroic experience with Spot Hero that I’ve ever heard! They’re supposed to be the solution—not the cause of runarounds and towing! Ouch! I’m so sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I think it’s very scary to discover the car is missing!
My only weird experience with SH was not actually their fault, but rather the fault of my navigation app: I was blithely following directions to my reserved spot in the Boston financial district, and the section of road between my car and the intended garage—which I could see up ahead—was completely taken up by a GIANT crane. (Its rollers at the base were as tall as my car.) Apparently no one had reported this to the app yet. Given my lack of familiarity with the streets in that area, I’m a little surprised I’m not still circling the blocks! (I did eventually manage to find a route past some loading docks and arrived at my waiting space. And I forgot to report the crane to the app.)
I’m still waiting to hear from SpotHero about them reimbursing me, Debbie, but I hope they come through soon!
I’d be very scared if I found my car towed.
I also used to be scared of jellyfish. On a trip to the beach when I was a child I saw moon jellyfish, other kinds of jellyfish, and even a Portugues man’o’war. I was scared they’d sting me even if I didn’t get near them. Now I think they’re wonderful animals. I even ordered jellyfish in a Vietnamese restaurant once. They wouldn’t let me have it. They were scared I wouldn’t like it. I wasn’t scared but I didn’t argue.
You never scare me, Chris. You help me to be brave.
Oh my… what a bummer to have your car towed! That was not a good day!! I’m not afraid of most of those things either, but somethings are designed to be scary!
Thanks for your empathy, Jan!
Thank you for your diligence, Ann.
I keep going, Mark, no matter how scared.
