Day 4216: Emotions

I don’t know about you, but emotions are running wild over here.

In therapy, we work on identifying, accepting, and expressing emotions without judgment. We also talk about how emotions are like the weather — that they come and go with different intensities.

On my door at the hospital where I work, I have an emotions chart that I drew in a group session many years ago.

.

I think the most important emotion on that chart is hope.

What other emotions are in my blog today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “emotions” on YouTube:

.

What emotions would you like to express in the comments section, below?

I feel gratitude for all who are here for this emotions post, including YOU!

One old saying of mine (I’m old enough to have invented a few old sayings) is, “Hope rears its ugly head once again.” Meaning that I have had hope crushed so many times that I dread its reappearance. J.R.R. Tolkien invented two words for hope, which was likely his favorite emotion: Amdir, is hope that something specific might be realized. “I have amdir that I will get to the grocery store tomorrow.” Estel is hope that the sun will continue to rise, that the stars will continue to shine above the clouds, and that all will someday be well. Estel is the hope that you have for your children and your children’s children. Amdir hopes that the car doesn’t break down on your journey. Estel hopes that your journey’s end holds that of which you dream.

My favorite emoji is the exploding brain, which applies to an amazing number of situations.

  3. I see a lot of innerpeace/calm in your pics today. fav emoji is laugh until you cry one

  4. I’m in a group that uses emojis regularly. An applause emoji was originally sarcastic, a slow clap, but there was something I felt deserved sincere applause and I couldn’t think of any other way to express my appreciation. I explained what I meant by it and now all members use it sincerely. I feel good that there’s a little less sarcasm and more appreciation.
