Day 4019: Be more present

Yesterday, after I was trying to be more present at (1) the airport saying goodbye to my son, (2) the vet’s office ordering more blood pressure medication for our cat Harley, and (3) the movie theatre for another film on my vacation, I saw this sign:

.

It helps to be more present, despite the mind’s insistence on traveling to the past, the future, and away from where we are.

Let’s be more present with my other images for today.

.

Celebrating “life through looming death” has been helping me be more present since I was very young.

Here’s Mel Robbins with a way to be more present:

.

What helps you be more present?

Please be more present with my gratitude for YOU!

  1. really taking in what’s going on and what is around me. I love the sign that just said, ‘be.’

  2. I’m an introvert until I get around people, Ann.

  3. Me too, markbialczak. And then I talk my head off for about half an hour until I run out of material. Either railing about politics or telling a funny story about how I messed something up. Not always present, but generally amusing. I think. 🙂

  4. I do plan to be entirely present in my Zoom conversation with my friend Hall. She is easy for me to be present with.

  5. An introvert sometimes is but seeking the solitude from a world in chaos. Rather than joining those who seek to run around with their hair on fire at every turn, they, in that solitude can separate fact from fiction. And in that find themselves settled on solid grounded. Comforted by steadfast common sense that guards one from every new fad and rage of the day.

  6. A few days before Christmas a friend shared something with me that said “This is the time you can lure introverts with books and snacks.”
I replied, “I will not attempt to lure the introverts. I will place snacks and reading material and retreat to a discreet distance. If they wish to communicate I will allow them to come to me.”

  7. Harley is taking blood pressure medications! I have a cat with a thyroid issues but I don’t remember if the vet has ever taken her blood pressure. I wonder if they use a pressure cuff or something else?

I’m not very good at staying in the moment but that doesn’t bother me because sometimes it takes me years to work out what really happened in one moment and other times it takes time to be ready for another. I get to be a different person every time I live in the past. If I ever suffer from locked in syndrome I will still have a very busy life in my head, living forward, backward, and somersault in the present time all at once. Well I hope so anyway.
