Day 3907: Overthinking

I don’t want to be overthinking today’s blog post, so we’ll see how that goes.

People come into therapy stating that their main problem is overthinking. Let’s see if I can find a helpful definition of overthinking.

.

I don’t know if I’m overthinking my latest song — “I Don’t Wanna Be Late (Don’t Wanna Be Early Either” — but I keep writing new verses, including these:

Now I’m thinking about writing a verse about overthinking.

I don’t wanna overthink. Don’t wanna underthink either.

It could drive a person to drink, trying so hard to be neither.

What’s so bad if you overthink? So you include everything and the kitchen sink?

What’s the crime in underthinking? It won’t kill you if your pondering starts shrinking.

Do you see overthinking in the rest of my blog post for today?

.

The Daily Bitch seems to be suggesting one cure for overthinking.

Here’s “Overthinking” by Sophie Pecora:

Please don’t be overthinking any comment you might want to make, below.

Thanks to all who help me go from overthinking or underthinking to just-right thinking, including YOU.

  1. Sometimes, when I’m writing a post, I’ll overthink it so much that it becomes garbled, at which point I have to erase everything back to where it began to go off the rails and just come up with a zingy closer.

  2. I’m guilty of overthinking almost everything. It can sometimes appear that I am just careful and making wise decisions, but I’m hear to affirm that overthinking is overrated! 🙂

  3. Gertrude Stein said, “Everyone gets so much information every day they lose their common sense.” I think of that sometimes as a good reminder that sometimes it’s possible to know too much. I still think I overthink things but I find it helps to write them down. That way I can stop circling around in my own head.

  4. You can change the name to The Neverending Song, Ann, as the lyrics keep on coming!

  5. Overthinking is definitely a problem that I have! I hate it! xx
