In my Coping and Healing groups, people often talk about ways to increase confidence.
Yesterday, the group talked about “fake it til you make it” — practicing confidence even when we’re not feeling it. It’s difficult to feel confidence when we’re doing something new, and everything we’re doing is new in one way or another.
Today, I have confidence that this post will adequately cover the topic of “confidence.”

Lest I let the Daily Bitch have the last word on confidence, here’s a wonderful Ted talk I find on YouTube when I search for “confidence.”
Thanks to all who help me have the confidence to embrace every new day, including YOU!

I still play the car radio and stereo in my house, Ann!
I’m confident you do that well, my friend!
My favorite: “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving
creates love.”
Thanks for sharing that, Jan!
It used to be that when entering uncertain places – anything from dark streets to crowded rooms, I would say to myself, “I am a priestess of the goddess.” Which goddess, I had no idea. It didn’t matter. How was I a priestess? Didn’t know, didn’t matter. But just thinking the words drew my back straighter, my walk more measured and confident, and my mind more calm and self-assured. I pretended to be unassailable and worthy of respect.
This method is only dangerous if you begin to act like an actual priestess of an actual goddess. This is not the time to demand homage from others. They won’t understand and may get miffed off.
Thanks for sharing that confidence booster. I’ve started saying to myself “you know what you’re doing.”
Although I think confidence and optimism aren’t necessarily the same thing, I often equate the two as I assess my own life. In areas where I sense optimism I also cultivate more confidence. I am confident that if I listen to too much negativity, which is hard to avoid these days, my optimism plummets and I’m not nearly as sure to claim confidence in daily decision making. You’ve set me off in a new direction as I think about this, Ann. I am always confident that you’ll bring up an interesting topic or two! ❤️
I’m always confident you will leave a thought-provoking and supportive comment, Debra.
You asked what musical instrument we play. I play saxophone.
Cool!
I play the tambourine (on request), so very rarely, if ever, and I am confident that this will not be my livelihood, but I like to play anyway
I appreciate how you play, beth!
My favorite is “All you need in this life is ignorance and
confidence, and then success is sure.”-
Mark Twain
It sums up the “trial and error” truth: “I did it by “‘trial and error’”….
I have confidence that can work, Maria.
