Day 3781: What’s going on in this picture?

Now that I’m back home from a terrific trip down the Rhine on a Viking river cruise (during which I implicitly kept asking “what’s going on this picture?” in this blog), I’m noticing this feature in the New York Times for young readers:

It’s occurring to me that, since I rarely caption my photos, I might be asking my readers to do too much work trying to figure out what’s going on in this picture. Today, I’ll be giving you a vacation from that, so you don’t have to ask yourself “what’s going on in this picture?”

Here are Judy and Dick, two lovely people I met on the river cruise. We connected on a walking tour when Dick mistook me for Judy from the back, put his arm on my shoulder and asked “are those lilacs?” At this farewell breakfast yesterday, we found out that we both live near Boston and that Judy and I work at the same hospital!
Judy, Dick, and I sharing breakfast together before we disembarked the river cruise in Basel, Switzerland. I’m wearing the dress/coat I bought in Strasbourg, which turned out to be super comfortable for plane travel.
Dick asked Manny (seen in this here blog post) to take a picture of the three of us from the back to demonstrate how easy it was for him to confuse me with Judy on the walking tour.
I noticed this window in the Basel airport and I took a picture of it, thinking that “join the journey” might make a great title for today’s blog.
Here’s Joan welcoming me home from my eight-day journey, which she couldn’t join because she’s a cat. I didn’t take any other pictures of the all-day plane journey from Basel to Frankfurt to Boston because I was trying to conserve my energy and also my phone’s energy so I could call for a Lyft after going through customs.
This is the present I bought for my husband Michael in Strasbourg. Michael likes snow globes and I think he appreciated this gift, even though it’s technically a snow pyramid.
Here’s another view of that gift from Strasbourg. Despite the great value Michael places on historical accuracy and truth, he didn’t seem to mind the surprising size differential between the cathedral and the stork.
Michael and I went for a walk near our home south of Boston, which has views that rival any of those I saw on the river cruise (although I do kind of miss the storks).
Joan and Harley enjoying the on-deck activities at home.
I’m not sure why I asked this particular question on Twitter last night but I assumed it would get a lot of interesting answers. My first reply to that question would probably be our shelter cats, although the River cruise, the snow pyramid, my new coat/dress, my little yellow car, and our home are other possible answers.
Some great answers to my question about bargains. Note some similarities to my answers and note also the exquisite title of “Our Lady of Perpetual Maintenance.”
More great answers to my question from folks on Twitter.
I appreciate the political satire and the household tips.
That about covers it for bargains.
I don’t know the answer to the Daily Bitch’s question for today but I think we get what’s going on in this picture.
I don’t know why some days have so many daily holidays and other have so few, but I can easily celebrate teachers and buttons.
Hurrah for the buttons on my new dress/coat!
Hurrah for this button I made for one of my patients and for myself!

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “what’s going on in this picture?”

Here’s what’s always going on in my picture: gratitude for all who help me take and share the pictures of my life, including YOU.
