For me, an existential question is how do I help to create the world I want to live in? I answered that one for myself long years ago when, disappointed by politics (Reagan won over Carter), I decided that my household and my life would proceed as I thought best and exemplified when possible by kindness, helpfulness, and cheerfulness. That’s a whole nest of “nesses” I’m thinking now. I have had moments that were less than kind, helpful or cheerful over the ensuing years, but they are still my goal. Remembering them helps bring me back to myself when I fail.
