Here are the lyrics of my original song “Triggers.”
For me it’s the cold and the dark.
For him it’s not finding a safe place to park.
For some it’s a loud noise.
For others it’s rude boys.
For many it’s news of attacks by a shark.
Everybody’s got a trigger.
Most of us have more than one.
Some are small and some are bigger.
None of them are ever fun.
Triggers are remnants of memories traumatic.
Reactions to triggers can seem over dramatic.
Triggers can haunt you, but don’t let them daunt you.
Because there are ways to make them less automatic.
Everybody’s got a trigger.
Most of us have more than one.
Some are small and some are bigger.
None of them are ever fun.
Therapy treats people’s triggers.
Research has proven some facts and some figures.
Certain movement of eyes, much to people’s surprise,
Make reactions to triggers smaller in size.
Everybody’s got a trigger.
Most of us have more than one.
Some are small and some are bigger.
None of them are ever fun.
People get triggered, that’s known.
I’ve gotten triggered each time that I’ve flown.
If I’ve triggered you here
My apologies, dear,
I hope that it helps to know you’re not alone.
Everybody’s got trigger.
Me and you and you and you.
Some are small and some are bigger.
Now my Triggers song is through.

Here is a live performance of my Triggers song:
.
My triggers include the cold, the dark, being rejected, making mistakes, forgetting the words while I’m performing, cruelty, and awful people in positions of power over me.
Do you see triggers in my other images for today?

What are your thoughts and feelings about this triggers post?
Thanks to all who help me deal with daily triggers, including YOU.

(hug).
That is a spare hug for the next time you encounter a trigger.
Thank you, Maureen! Hugs back to you.
My triggers: People slurping soup/tea/coffee; lip smacking while eating chewing loudly. I love her to death but my wife and my in-laws all smack their lips and chew loudly. Oh and they slurp. Drives me bonkers. I guess it is called misphonia and it fits with my neurodivergence.
Out of the house: over racism/sexism. Confederate flags.
Thanks for sharing your triggers, Stan.
Criticism. Very sensitive to it. If I sense criticism, I will immediately wonder what I’ve done wrong and will go into a downward spiral of guilt and belief that I never do anything right. Replay the occasion over and over again in my head. This does not apply to my writing, which I have finally come to accept as helpful. Mostly. 🙂 But any suggestion that I have not done right by someone triggers me. I do get over it relatively quickly, and don’t let it follow me around for more than a day, but it is unpleasant.
I have a fear of clowns and dentists and have startle response! I’ve learned to work with them over time )
You are not alone, beth!
Did you really write that triggers song 10 years ago, in 2015? Or is that a typo? (Maybe you did; I’ve been proofreading all morning so any small, possibly incorrect, details are still popping out at me.)
Actually, CHATGPT told me that it was 2015, but it was really 2018. I will correct that. Thank you, Debbie!
