Day 4384: What else is new?

My husband, Michael, has been a life-long news junkie until November 2024. After the USA election, he decided to do a total news blackout. Instead, he is using that time to play the video game Civilization, and he seems happier and less anxious as a result.

I am avoiding the news, but it still seeps in through my interactions with people. I’m doing my best to disengage from political news (which is just too depressing) while remaining open to opportunities for activism and resistance to the incoming administration.

What else is new? I’m feeling better after being sick for several days. I’m ready to meet up with my son and my ex-husband today for lunch and to go to a play with my son in Harvard Square. Also, I’ve booked a flight to Italy this spring, which is very good news indeed.

What else is new in my new images for today?

Happy Mew Year for Cats Day (which is news to me), everybody!

When I search for “what else is new?” on YouTube, I find this …

  1. i am a news junkie, too, and would love to hear more about Michael’s experiment.

Your trip to Italy sounds amazing!!

  2. I feel for your husband. I was almost one during the primaries. Since I’m sure my blood pressure shot up through the roof I don’t really follow the news (except for the headlines). I’d rather play Diablo!

I’m a news junkie, but I pretty much gave it up over the holidays. For one thing, my favorite cable news guy, Chris Hayes, was not always at his desk, given said holidays. For another, TFG could spout all he wanted to, as could Must, et al., but they couldn’t actually do anything. I’m not paying much attention to him or his cronies or their nefarious plans until the 20th. In the meantime, though, the new Congress convenes on Friday. January 6th fast approaches, when the old president will be affirmed by VP Harris. I’ll tune back in for that. I’ve always been up for wild rides.

So glad to hear you’re feeling better. And yay, trip to Italy!

  5. glad you’re feeling better and will get to hang with your son and your ex. how exciting, italy!

  6. My wife and I just started watching the show “Derry Girls”. I could easily binge the entire series in a single sitting but I’m glad we’re spacing it out with one, occasionally two, episodes per day. It gives me a chance to think about and appreciate each one.
