When I was talking to a dear friend last week, she told me that what helped her was remembering that her current problems would change, that “this too shall pass.” I said that when I think “this too shall pass,” my assumption is that things will get better, but my husband’s twin brother’s version of “this too shall pass” is “Enjoy what’s going on now because things are sure to get worse.”
Here’s the Daily Bitch’s version of “this too shall pass.”

This too shall pass, but first we have to look at my other images for the day.

If you don’t like this version of my most recent original song, just remember, “This too shall pass.”

Thanks to all who helped me create this too-shall-pass blog post, including YOU!

All things must pass – George Harrison
A wonderful musician who has passed.
My viewpoint of the saying has always been bye-bye not so good, hello better, Ann.
This too is my view, my friend.
I have a few comments that are unrelated to each other.
1. I hadn’t thought of “this too shall pass” as a pessimistic statement that things could get worse! Not a fan of that meaning 🙁
2. Very nice photos of downtown.
3. I didn’t remember that Michael has a twin brother.
Thanks for passing those along, Debbie.
This too shall pass has never meant that things would get better or worse. Only that this particular problem would join other particular problems that have gone wherever such problems go when they have finished with you.
This too makes sense, Barbara.
The saying “This too shall pass” always reminds me of the epic of Gilgamesh, which was first introduced to me as a way to understand and accept loss and grief. After losing his friend Enkidu Gilgamesh goes through shock, anger, depression, and when he finally meets the old man Utnapishtim he first tries bargaining for immortality before finally accepting that he and everything he’s created, everything he knows, is transient. So he returns home.
Things may get better or they may get worse, but it does help if you have a home to return to.
Thanks for returning here, my friend.
This too shall pass, meaning don’t give up hope. That’s what keeps us going
