Day 4900: Losses and Gains

Yesterday, I lost my wedding ring. I also gained this understanding: what’s important to me is the strength of the marriage, not the symbol of it.

The lost ring may turn up. In the meantime, I’ll be gaining a “place holder”ring that evokes the lost one.

.

Yesterday morning, on my walk to work (when I may or may not have already lost my ring), I gained a new experience.

.

I saw turkey babies! Nobody else noticed them — everyone else was hurrying by on their way to work. Their loss; my gain.

Do you see losses and gains in my other images for today?

.

Because I lost sleep last night, I’ve lost any interest in looking up Yell “Fudge” at the Cobras in North America Day. I haven’t lost faith in your ability to investigate that if you want to gain more info.

Here’s what I find when I look up “losses and gains” on YouTube:

.

Thanks to everyone who is here for this losses-and-gains post, including YOU!

Day 4592: Sense of humor

When the world seems senseless, I especially appreciate a sense of humor.

Yesterday morning, on my way into work, I listened to the late Tom Lehrer, who was an early influence on my sense of humor.

Do you see a sense of humor in my images for today?

.

I love my son’s sense of humor, which came through in his standup comedy and which shows up even when he’s presenting about Category Theory at a Quantum Physics and Logic conference in Bulgaria.

.

I’m very proud.

Thanks to all who have a sense of humor, including YOU!

Day 3435: Patterns

Human beings tend to see patterns. For example, I see the repeating pattern in today’s blog post number.

Our proclivity for patterns might explain people’s inclinations for conspiracy theories and other misguided cause-and-effect thinking (“gas prices and inflation are higher since Joe Biden took office, it’s his fault!”) Because there are pros and cons to everything (a pattern I see in the world), the tendency to see patterns can give us a sense of connection and it definitely serves artists well.

Do you see patterns in the many images in today’s post?

Here’s what I find on YouTube when I search for “patterns.”

I also find this.

I have a pattern of noticing and expressing gratitude, so thanks to all who help me create these daily posts, including YOU.

Day 1958: What’s your favorite season?

What’s your favorite season?

My favorite season is spring.  That’s why I’m taking this next week off from work, so I can enjoy the flowering trees, the glorious colors, and the warmth of my favorite season.  This morning, I’m leaving on a fast train for New York City to enjoy two days of my favorite season with one of my favorite people, Jeanette.

What’s your favorite picture of these, which I took during my favorite season?

Here are Alex Horne and the Horne Section asking and answering “What’s Your Favourite Season?”

My favorite way to end a blog post — no matter what the season —  is with thanks.  Thanks to all who helped me create today’s seasonal post and — of course! — to YOU.

Day 1957: Choices

In every therapy group I facilitate, people have choices about how they participate and about what topic we choose to focus on.  Yesterday, the group members had many choices and decided on the topic “choices.”

My choices of photos, above, include only what I chose to reveal in group.  My handwriting is not choice, so I choose to type my choices of what I shared.

What is your personal experience of choices?

I like having choices.

What helps with choices?

Self-care.

Realizing what the choices are.

Checking out choices with others.

Self-confidence.

Realizing I’ve made good choices before.

Recognizing that most choices are not irrevocable.

Before the group, I made these photographic choices:

Are my photographic choices good enough?

Many people I know feel guilt, shame, and regret about choices they’ve made in the past. I invite them to make these choices, moving forward:

  • Recognize that they were doing the best they could at the time and
  • Forgive themselves.

As always, there are many choices of songs to share.

You have the choice to make any comment you choose.

As always, my choices for ending a blog post include thanks to all who helped me create it and — of course! —  to YOU, for making the choice to visit here, today.
