Day 3630: Weary

I’m weary as I’m writing this because

  • I often have trouble sleeping after my very full Thursday of doing individual and group therapy from 10 AM to 7 PM,
  • I have to keep making design decisions about our shower/bathroom remodel even after I think I’m finally done with all that,
  • I struggle balancing my needs with other people’s needs,
  • I have a very unusual heart which does not sustain me very well when I’m climbing stairs or hills,
  • this time of the year tires me out, and
  • I’m turning 70 in a few months, so what do you expect?

However, I’m not too weary to look for quotes about “weary.”

.

Today is National Weary Willie Day.

I expect to grow weary of the jokes people might make about Weary Willie Day.

I hope people aren’t too weary to look at the rest of my images today.

The Daily Bitch seems weary of niceties today.

Here’s the late great Madeline Kahn singing a weary song in Blazing Saddles (which I never grow weary of).

I hope you’re not too weary to leave a comment about this weary post.

Thanks to all who help perk me up when I’m weary, including YOU.

Day 2265: Exhausted

Even though I’m up for anything these days, sometimes I get exhausted, especially on Thursdays, when I

  • work from 10 to 9,
  • facilitate two therapy groups,
  • orient new people for my groups,
  • see several people for individual therapy,
  • go to a meeting of social workers,
  • have about 20 minutes for lunch,
  • try to decide whether to look at or avoid the news,
  • practice my  latest song, and
  • practice self-care.

In one of those therapy groups, a person exhausted by a major and unexpected loss shared that she practices self care by taking breaks, even if it’s a break for a moment.  I wasn’t too exhausted to hear that she had learned that skill in my groups.

I was so exhausted by the end of the day  that I added a new emotion to the emotions chart on my door:

Here and now, I’m exhausted by the possibility that somebody might tell me that “exhausted” is not really an emotion.

Here and now, I’m NOT too exhausted to share my other photos from yesterday.

I hope you’re not too exhausted to share what exhausts you and what energizes you, in a comment below.

Here‘s the late and great Madeline Kahn singing about how exhausted she is in Mel Brooks‘s Blazing Saddles.

I’m never too exhausted to express my gratitude for all those who help me create these daily posts and — of course! — for YOU.

Day 818: Funny

It’s funny how funny is so important to me,  but this is my first post with “Funny” as the title.

It’s funny how I got this in a return email last week, from a doctor at work who is leaving the practice:

Don’t worry — I’m starting to catch on to your sense of humor after all this time! And you have already very kindly made it  clear that you’ll miss me — as I will miss you.

It’s funny how I am going to miss that doctor even more, now that I know she uses dashes for punctuation — like I do.

It’s funny how I have trouble remembering positive feedback I get from others, including these lists (from my family in the 1980s and from my co-workers at the job before my current one):

It’s funny how out of all the things on those lists, I am particularly proud of the ones relating to how funny I am.

It’s funny how if I hadn’t facilitated those two groups of people generating  Appreciation  Lists like those above for each other, I never would have known they appreciated me in all those ways.

It’s funny how the other people in those groups really appreciated their Appreciation Lists, too.

It’s funny how I took each of these photos yesterday, thinking about my post today:

It’s funny how I thought of Stephen Sondheim’s “(Not) Getting Married Today” from Company as a great song for this Funny post, and found three versions I wanted to share with you:

If you wish to find Carol Burnett, Madeline Kahn, and the original Broadway cast doing that song on YouTube, I wouldn’t find that funny at all.

Any thoughts, feelings, or songs about funny today?

Funny thanks to my co-workers, my family, chocolate, Philippe Petit, The Friendly Toast, the Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge Massachusetts USA, What We Do in the Shadows, Stephen Sondheim, Carol Burnett, Madeline Kahn, the original cast of Company,  and all the funny people who have made my life worth living, including you!
