Day 4989: What day is it?

What day is it?

It’s the day when I set off for my adventure in Switzerland by myself.

It’s a day when I connect with wonderful people in real life and online.

It’s Slinky Day!

It’s a day when I say goodbye to Michael and the cats.

It’s a day when I share images like these with you.

I know you will have a marvelous time because, unlike me, you will always feel confident that you can turn to strangers to say things like, “Isn’t that marvelous?” about a stunning sight or to fellow diners to ask, “Are you visiting here too? How was your day?” I was always afraid that I would be imposing on them. So have a marvelous, sociable time!

    • I am actually being less sociable than usual, Barbara, and it is all working out beautifully.

I am amazed to find you replying to our comments while you are on vacation!

I also have to note that I play a little game called “Name the Countries” which shows an outline of that country. I always know Switzerland by the way it wriggles about in central Europe.

Seeing that note from the airline about checking a bag reminds me how puzzled I am when I’m at an airport gate and the agent announces that x number of bags *must* be checked. “Take our your lithium batteries, laptops, other electronics, medications, [etc.] so your bag can be checked.” And do what with them? What if no alternative bag was brought along for those—and why would anyone do that, because the idea was they would be carried in the carryon suitcase?! Will the airline provide a tote bag? Is it expected that the passenger(s) will whip to an airport luggage store to buy (likely expensive) small bag(s)? There is a piece of logic missing. Or I’m completely overlooking some obvious solution. Even when the situation doesn’t directly affect me (I generally check a suitcase and use a very small carryon bag), that announcement adds to my already heightened state of anxiety of sitting at an airport gate. I hope you have no luggage problems!

Anyway, have a safe and fabulous trip. I love Switzerland and have traveled there several times. I look forward to reading about your adventures.

  5. I’ve always been fascinated by Switzerland on a map. Borders are arbitrary anyway but Switzerland’s seem especially peculiar. It appears to be oozing down into Italy, which reminds me of Mark Twain’s joke about Europe in the Dark Ages being so divided a person couldn’t stretch out flat without a passport. Still I have nothing but kind words about my brief time in Switzerland and I hope you have fun!
