Day 4961: Taking Up Space

Something I’ve noticed about myself and people I work with in therapy: We are concerned about taking up space.

I’m so concerned about taking up space that I worry about my new shoes making too much noise when I’m walking through other people’s spaces!

I’d like to be more comfortable about taking up space.

Also, anxiety has been taking up space in my mind as I prepare for my solo trip to Switzerland at the end of this month.

Now, I’ll be taking up space with my images for today.

.

On International Forgiveness Day, I’m going to forgive myself for how I am taking up space.

Here’s what I find when I search for “taking up space” on YouTube:

.

Thanks to all who are here and taking up space, including YOU!

  1. Wow, Ann, I can hardly keep up with all the wonderful trips you take. You are really living life to the fullest.

I hope that you don’t worry about the sound of your new shoes squeaking. They herald the arrival of Ann, and anybody who hears that squeak is one of the world’s luckiest people.

I agree with Maureen. Aside from that, I have been one of those people who worries about taking up space for too much of my life. Mostly it had to do with being a tall girl/woman. I felt conspicuous. Sometimes wondering if I belonged in this room/at this party/whatever. I retain some habits from that time – always making certain that I take one of the last chairs available in a group. Standing near the door against a wall at a party until I’m certain about where to go next. Stuff like that.

I traveled alone through England twice and Italy/France once alone and it was great. Also did solo road trips through the southwest and northeast, doing it all on my own time and seeing whatever I decided I wanted to see. You may miss a companion to share an experience with, but you will also have little compunction about reaching out to share your wonderment with someone close by. You’ll do fine.

  3. have a wonderful time on your trip and take up as much space as you like in switzerland. i think there is space for all of us in this world, as least for those who won’t make space for everyone
