When I was high school valedictorian, I wrote and delivered a speech called “The Irrational Pursuit of Happiness.” I believe it was about the ephemeral nature of being happy but I can’t remember many other details. I just remember being happy about the opportunity to speak to my classmates about my thoughts, feelings, and values.
Today’s Daily Bitch Calendar has some advice on being happy.

.
Yesterday, I was being happy about spending time with my husband Michael shopping for a new kitty litter box and a new recycling bin to replace the one destroyed by a snow plow last week.

.
When I was a high school senior, I didn’t picture myself being happy about such things.
Do you see being happy in my other images for today?

.
My happiness goal for February 17 is being happy whether or not the interview about my music shows up on the Therapist Uncensored podcast today.
Here’s what I find when I search for “Being Happy” on YouTube:

What are your thoughts and feelings about being happy?
Thanks to all who contribute to my being happy, including YOU!

Here’s something to be happy about: I am here! If ignorance is bliss, I am one sad MelonFarmer ( my cousin and I came up with this since we could not use the ‘F’ word) I can imagine my grandmother saying Melon Farmers, the same way she said Sugar (for SH1T). Anyway, I learned long ago I can be happy or not. It’s a choice.
That you were the class valedictorian really sheds light on the idea that we need more valedictorians to be therapists.
Who would be a good president: in 2020, I really liked Mayor Pete. I thought a combination of Buttigieg and Klobuchar would have been a great ticket. The midwestern pedigree that they both bring would be tough to beat. Right now, I like Newsome, but as someone mentioned, he has a past. To that I say, Trump got elected on his past. Newsome. Jeffries. I still like Buttigieg and Klobuchar. Gretchen Whitmer would be excellent.
I’m so happy that you are here, Stan!
It is good to be happy when we can be! Those are my thoughts on the subject of happiness!
Your thoughts make me happy, Carol Anne!
I remember a moment – must have been some time before the 2024 elections – when I just stopped what I was doing for a minute and realized, “I’m happy.” I don’t remember ever feeling that way before, which might be why I was trying to identify the feeling. Just sitting at my desk, my computer and TV-sized screen in front of me, in one of two rooms of my own in my son’s house. I needed for nothing and could access friends I had had to leave behind in Seattle at a moment’s notice. I’m happy. It’s enough.
Similar. I was on the bus commute home (commuter bus) and I was thinking about how nice it was not to have to deal with the traffic here in the greater DC Baltimore area. I sat back in my seat and realized how happy I was just to be. Then I took the leap when I got home. Sat down to dinner with my wife and I think for the for the time in a long time, I said I was happy. Our home and lives. Our street and town. My job. I do remember a time I was this happy.
My childhood was marred with abusive/ neglectful parents (one abusive the other neglect). Sure I found happiness where I could but it definitely did not include either of them. And finally in my 50s I believe I found it.
I did not have a bad childhood, but I was a difficult child – not in a JD sense, but in a sense that I was always trying to escape my family, living in books, living in trees. 🙂 Always looking for someplace else to be. And after a someone unsettled life, which I cannot and do not regret in any way, I finally found a place to just be. Very happy that you did as well. <3
I’m happy to know both of you. 💙💙
I’m just happy to be here but also happily looking forward to listening to The Therapist Uncensored podcast.
I will be very happy if it ever airs, Chris!
Ah I didn’t realize that was *your* blue bin that got crushed. Yikes. Quite the destruction.
The same snow plow that did that also managed to create a 2-foot high mound of snow and ice blocking our driveway after small amount of snowfall, which made it very difficult for me to get to my eye doctor appointment on time. Quite the destruction, indeed.
I am happy to read that you enjoyed shopping with Michael. The damage the snow plow did to your recycling bin was impressive!
I’m always happy to hear from you, Maureen!
