This morning, I finished listening to the audiobook of Mike Nichols: A Life by Mark Harris.

Mike Nichols — improv comedian, writer, stage director, and film director — had quite a life. While listening to A Life, I’ve been revisiting his routines with Elaine May as well as his many films, including Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Graduate, Catch-22, Silkwood, Working Girl, The Birdcage, Wit, and his amazing version of Angels in America. In A Life, I found out that he was one of the writers of a TV special I adored as a child — Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall.
Mike Nichols was committed to living a life of creativity, connection, curiosity, excellence, and growth. He lived that life while grappling with depression, disappointment, criticism, self-doubt, and many public failures as well as successes.
I am always inspired by a life like that.
Do you see a life in my other images for today?

I’m so grateful that I get to live a life with Joan…
.
… and with YOU!

A life? Let me count the lives. Little Girl Life – then we moved. School Girl Life – then I graduated. Chicago Life – then I moved. Wisconsin Life – then I moved. Seattle Life – then I moved. Wisconsin Life again. And within these lives are so many more. Civil Rights Life. NOW Life. Married Life 1 & 2. Mother Life. Farmer Life. Biker Life. Deadhead Life. Writer Life. Little Old Lady Life. So far, so good.
Wonderful lives, Barbara.
