Day 4351: Listening

Listening to others is my job. I believe that listening is a skill that takes practice.

Rather than listening to the voices of lying and greedy politicians lately, I’ve been listening to music, audiobooks, sounds of nature, and the voices of those I love.

Since August 2023, I’ve been listening to very annoying crackling noises whenever I speak; miraculously, I’ve been listening to fewer of those distracting sounds since Wednesday.

Here’s Joan listening and responding:

.

On TikTok, people would rather be listening to that video than this one, when I finished my verse.

.

During Thanksgiving, I was listening to my husband Michael’s twin brother Steve, who suggested that I’d get more views on my YouTube channel if I used certain words in the descriptions of my songs. After listening to Steve, I tried this:

.

I’m also listening to somebody on the Bluesky social media site who suggested I write more in my YouTube description of my live performances of my songs:

.

Also, I wonder if anyone is listening to this new video from that performance that I posted on YouTube yesterday.

.

Is there anything worth listening to in my images for today?

.

During troubling times when I might like to say “screw you” to abusive people, I’ve sustained myself by listening to Paul Simon’s The Rhythm of the Saints.

.

I especially love listening to these words:

To overcome an obstacle or an enemy

To glide away from the razor or the knife

To overcome an obstacle or an enemy

To dominate the impossible in your life.

What have you been listening to?

Many thanks to all who are listening here, including YOU.

  1. <3 listen up!

  2. Dobie Gray’s ‘Drift Away’ soothes my soul, Ann.

  3. Michael’s brother’s suggestions seem like good ones to me.

    Joan is a sweetheart

  4. Anne, I love your performance of your new song! It is amazing!

  5. I’ve been teaching myself to play “Jingle Bells” by ear. I think it would be fun to play one of your songs because I enjoy listening to them but I wouldn’t put any of my performances on YouTube. I wouldn’t want to take away any views from you.

  6. Last night I listened to Spanish Pipedream by John Prine. Best advice for this time: “Blow up your TV. Throw away your paper…” For the latter part of the last orange administration, it was Iris Dement’s Working on a World, which provides good advice too, but after the news diet’s over…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOS7OiLE11c

Podcasts I listen to, if you want any recommendations: The Rest is History (two Brits having fun with all the history they can think of), Unclear and Present Danger (Jamelle Bouie and John Ganz talking about thrillers we have known and had opinions about and the politics therein), Why Is This Happening? (Chris Hayes interviewing people about pertinent questions of the day – hour-long interesting conversations), and then if you’re into anything Tolkien, just google The Tolkien Professor for hours and hours and hours of discussion. Really! I don’t think there’s an end to them.
