Day 4054: Compliments

This is what I hear about compliments:

  • They often feel uncomfortable.
  • People yearn for them.
  • People don’t get enough of them.
  • People don’t know what to say in response.
  • The best response is “Thank you.”

  1. The best compliment I ever got was from an old guy on a barstool who told me, “When you smile, that’s when the lights come on.”

  2. My boss gave me a compliment the other day and it was such a surprise I wasn’t able to respond. She also said one of her New Year’s resolutions was to be a better communicator and I realized later that a good compliment would have been “You’re succeeding.”
