I forgot the whole routine, but Steve Martin used to talk about committing crimes and the defense of saying “I forgot!” “I forgot that doing that was a crime!”
I forgot what the crime was, but it doesn’t matter.
Yesterday, I forgot to write more for the book I’m doing with my friend and fellow psychotherapist Megan, but I’ve already written some notes about it today. I forgot how to work on a shared document in Google Docs but maybe somebody will remind me.
Whenever somebody says to me “I forgot what I was saying,” I reply, “Don’t worry. It’ll come back to you.” And it almost always does.
Older people forget that they also forgot things when they were younger and often panic when they forget, assuming it means they are exhibiting signs of dementia. I forgot to maintain data about how seldom it’s dementia and how often it’s just the normal experience of forgetting nouns and names as people grow older.
I forgot the exact title of the new Indiana Jones movie and I’m looking forward to seeing that today.
I forgot to mention that my motto is from Raiders of the Lost Ark: “I’m making it up as I go along.”
I forgot the exact phrasing of that quote, but I found this on my Facebook page:

I forgot that the actual quote is: “I don’t know; I’m making this up as I go.”

I forgot to capture more images on I Forgot Day yesterday.

.
I forgot to compliment my mirror today, so “Hello, gorgeous!”
Here’s the Steve Martin routine about “I Forgot.”
.
I forgot how relevant that routine from the 1970s was to these days, when millionaires don’t pay taxes.
I forgot to take any good photos of gratitude yesterday, but thanks to Steve Martin, Megan, Indiana Jones, my sister-in-law Tammy who collects sea glass and who hosted a wonderful barbecue yesterday, my followers on Twitter, and those who didn’t forget to visit my blog today, including YOU!

and i forgot to send you a photo of Joan!
And I forgot that you were going to do that but I won’t forget to put those photos in today’s blog!
I’m one of my favorite’ I forgots’ of all time, was when I was with a small group of friends more than 10 years ago. We were trying to think of a movie to pickup from blockbuster and one of us suggested a movie that she was sure we would all love but couldn’t remember many details or who was in it or the name. She decided to call blockbuster and see if they could figure it out if she gave them the info she had. When they answered she said’ the title starts with the word ‘the’ and it has 3 words in it and has that handsome male lead who everyone would recognize.’
I’m not going to forget that unforgettable story!
I started to introduce my boyfriend to somebody once, and then promptly forgot his name. And that was LONG before I had any reason to suspect dementia.
I forgot a friend’s name at a party when I was in my 20s and since then I’ve been afraid of doing that again!
I’ve never forgotten that I worked with a guy named Jamie who told me one night in the early ‘70’s he was walking down Nashville’s Elliston Place and saw a crowd coming in the opposite direction led by a guy in a white suit. Jamie followed them to McDonald’s where the guy in the white suit ordered two thousand cheeseburgers then abruptly changed it to one small order of fries.
Steve Martin later described leading crowds down that street in Born Standing Up.
Unforgettable, Chris.
I do not think you forget much, Ann. You never seem to forget to blog! You never seem to forget to post photos. You never seem to thank people and you never forget your friends, Michael, Aaron or your cats.
Thanks, my unforgettable friend!
Oops! I made a bit of a mistake there, probably a typo. I should have written that you never *forget* to thank people.
I instantly forget other people’s “mistakes” and I wish I could do the same for myself! 💕
