Because I believe so strongly in the healing power of groups, I always encourage joining groups, especially during these times of polarization and isolation.
Do you see joining groups in my group of images today?
.
Because I’m joining (for the fourth time) the group that feels sick the day after they get a COVID vaccine, the screwing off begins right after I publish this blog post.
Answering my own question about joining a musical group: the Pat Metheny group is what I would join and here they are joining each other beautifully on “Third Wind.”
If you want to be joining the group that comments on this blog, see below.
Joining groups of grateful people is easy for me, so thanks to all who help me post every day, including YOU!
Before I reveal something about myself in a therapy group, I ask myself “Who is it for?”
If the answer is that it’s mostly for me, I will not share the information. If I believe that it’s mostly for the group, I will use self-disclosure.
Yesterday morning, while I was feeling very sad about the death of jazz pianist Lyle Mays, I was listening to a jazz program on WHRB, the Harvard radio station. I decided to call them and tell them about the death of Lyle. Who was it for? It was for me and for any fans of Lyle who might be listening.
As I suspected, the two Harvard students who were DJ-ing the morning jazz program on WHRB were not familiar with Lyle, but they did this for me: they announced his death on air and played one of his tunes. Then it was for me and for the other listeners who called in that they abandoned their scheduled playlist and shared lots of Lyle.
One of the tunes they played yesterday morning was “It’s For You.”
When I first heard about Lyle’s death Monday night, a melancholy melodic phrase from “It’s For You” filled my head, but I couldn’t remember the name of the tune. It’s for you and for me that I share a live version of “It’s For You” now.
It’s for you that I take and share my recent photos.
Who was that delicious and nutritious meal for? It was for me and my husband Michael as we watched the returns from the New Hampshire primary last night.
Who is it for when I blog every day? In case you didn’t know, it’s for you AND for me.
My immediate reaction to checking my old blog posts, just now, is surprise that I have never written a post with “Immediate” in the title before.
My immediate thought upon waking up this morning was “It’s the day of my one-day only Fringe Festival show — “Group ‘Therapy’ with Ann.”
I’m hoping to help the people who show up to my show to get an immediate appreciation of the benefits of group therapy. I’m also hoping that the immediate and understandable performance jitters I might be experiencing during my show will not cause me to forget the immediate words and the chords of the two original songs I’ll be sharing.
When I saw this sign yesterday on the streets of Edinburgh,
… my immediate thought was “That’s the title of my blog post tomorrow.”
What are your immediate reactions to the many other photos I took yesterday?
My immediate urge is to let you know that you can enlarge any of those photos by clicking on it immediately.
My immediate reactions to the extraordinary show of my venue captain …
When I was putting up my immediate posters for my show at the venue — The Natural Food Kafe — I asked a patron if he would come to a show like mine. His immediate reaction was yes, if he could. It took just a few minutes for us to realize that we had an immediate connection in our mutual love for jazz guitarist Pat Metheny.
