Day 4881: America

The theme for today’s post is America.

I have lived in America all of my long life and I never thought Americans would tolerate such incompetence and corruption in their leaders.

I asked a question about America on social media last night.

.

I love the different ways that people responded to that question about America.

Do you see America in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I look for “America” on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all who help me live my life in America, including YOU.

I chose racism as being more American than apple pie because a) recent Supreme Court supremely foolish decision in Louisiana case and b) my reading in Ron Chernow’s bio of U.S. Grant. In the latter, I just finished the last days of his presidency, and the violence which was beginning to overtake the South in regard to black citizenship, particularly the right to vote, was horrendous. When Grant stepped down from the presidency, Reconstruction was over and done with. Even the North was “tired” of hearing about Southern black complaining of the violence being done to them. Jim Crow was on his way to stay. I’m afraid he may be coming back.

  2. Something I never forget is that Canada, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Panama, Brazil, Suriname, Uruguay…I could go on but the point is they’re all America. North, Central, and South, spanning two hemispheres, we all share a complicated history as Americans.
No one person embodies any country but Langston Hughes is one who makes me proud to be American.

  3. I think Americans made a big mistake voting Trump into office! Now he’ll be there for at least 2 more years!
