Day 4789: Extraterrestrials

Because yesterday was Extraterrestrial Culture Day AND Extraterrestrial Visitor Day, I asked people what their thoughts were about extraterrestrials. This was my favorite answer:

.

One of my group members says he thinks I am an extraterrestrial because of the weird clicking noises I hear whenever I speak. Tomorrow I am seeing yet another terrestrial expert, hoping to get rid of those extra noises.

Do you see extraterrestrials in my other images for today?

.

Here’s what I find when I search for extraterrestrials on YouTube.

.

Thanks to all the terrestrials who are here for this extraterrestrials post, including YOU!

From my absolute favorite comic strip.

Yes I believe in extraterrestrial life. With a galaxy as large as ours and multiple galaxies throughout the universe, most assuredly, there is another yellow dwarf star with satellites in its orbit. Is it life as we know it? Maybe. Maybe something more advanced. Maybe something more primitive.

  2. good one!

Something I’ve noticed about the movies’ attempts to picture extraterrestrials is that no one seems to be able to imagine other life forms than those with which we are already acquainted. Horrendous insects? Check. Tentacled? Check. Evil humanoid? Check.

Whatever physical shape they may take, they seem always to embody the worst of human behaviors. Kill everything? Check. Blow up everything? Check. Pretend to be nice and then drop the cookbook? Check. When Gort and Klaatu arrive on The Day The Earth Stood Still, we try to kill them for trying to help.

Just as IRL, our imaginations boggle at the “why can’t we all just get along” scenario.

  4. Stephen Hawking said that if we encounter extraterrestrials they’ll be like Columbus and we’ll be the Native Americans. I’m not so sure the encounter will lead to such a disastrous outcome for us. There are so many possibilities. Just today I was reminded of the “Darmok” episode of Star Trek which ends with Picard saying the aliens they’ve encountered may not be new friends but “at least they’re not new enemies”.

  5. The easiest way to connect to extraterrestrial life is through meditation. My encounters with them having only been very positive and only in altered states of consciousness, like guided meditation. Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek’s Prime Directive based on intuited information, and master hypnotist Dolores Cannon’s work included years of her clients experiencing past lives as extraterrestrials.
