During these difficult times, I’m working on my album of original songs and thinking about music that has gotten me through difficult times.
When I was a kid, the late Tom Lehrer’s music got me through difficult times.
As I’ve gotten older, Paul Simon, Todd Rundgren, Pat Metheny, and Jacob Collier have helped me get through difficult times.
Do you see music for difficult times in my images for today?

What’s been your music for difficult times?
Thanks to all who help me get through difficult times, including YOU!

Good Morning Ann.

“Overhead look at blue what a sky so high above I try to reach inside to know how high I dare to go maybe it’s just gravity that’s going to keep me in my place there’s so much space to fill but I’ve still got this weight understand the things we see but they take some time to reach unless we learn to live on thousand foot high ladders maybe all we’ve ever done is think of ways to pass the time but who wears watches when their wrists are being tied
are we all small like all the ants that like to crawl along the walls into the cracks to get away from all the eyes that see themselves in certain ways as tall as skies as big as giants
what can we believe when we pretend that we don’t see or talk or dream about a chance to run away we all have eyes that see ourselves in different ways as tall as skies as big as giants”
This is the song that is my go to when I need to move beyond. Growing up with alcoholic parents, I wanted to be an ant that crawled along the wall. I did not want to be seen. That was 40 years ago but the spotlight still scares me. Even when I know the answer, I tense up. This song and others like it (https://youtu.be/3UJSA0mMPww?si=woIp4EfB4-k-qCSm “Fear of Failure… Fear of reprimand…Two big problems I’ve never had I never doubted what I had inside
What I had inside”) Except when I do… 🙁
Thank you so much, Stan, for sharing all that. 💙
And of course I remember this morning that, long before I discovered The Grateful Dead, it was Simon and Garfunkel, in the sixties. This song: “When you’re weary, feeling sad, and pain is all around …”
Wonderful music, Barbara.
Tom Lehrer helped me laugh through a lot of times but lately I’ve been learning to play “Here Comes The Sun”. People who’ve overheard me practicing have smiled and told me they know that song—the first time that’s ever happened. That’s helped me a lot.
I look forward to hearing you play, Chris.
