Day 4578: Angst

Even though I’m ready for adventure, I am an adventurer who is feeling angst.

.

My hair is not causing me angst, but the state of my country definitely is.

At Sunday’s workshop on Laughtivism (activism using the power of humor), many of us discussed how our angst was getting in the way of our senses of humor — that it was difficult to even imagine laughter in the face of so much evil and injustice. Despite my ideas and my parody song “The Age of Nefarious” getting positive attention at the workshop, I am still struggling with lots of angst today. One thing I learned at the workshop that magnified my angst: while Donald Trump’s approval rating is historically low, the Democrats’ rating is TEN POINTS LOWER.

I don’t know if I’m feeling more angst or anger.

Do you see angst in my images for today?

.

Other people on this planet are causing me a load of angst.

Here’s what I find when I search for “angst” on YouTube.

.

I’m also feeling angst about the untimely death of the poet Andrea Gibson.

.

Thanks to all who are here for the angst etc., including YOU.

  1. There is a lot to be angsty about, for sure, Ann.

  2. You are far from alone… angst is brewing all around these days. Thank you for the reminder to also find some humor.

My angst has subsided into a “of course they did” attitude when I hear about new excrescences on the political horizon. It’s hovering dangerously close to acceptance, and I’m a bit angsty about that. So much of what is happening does not affect me directly – and I suspect it does not affect most people who have been most concerned. There won’t be any ICE aids on my street. My son, if necessary, will (likely) kick in if any of my “entitlements” are negatively affected. My favorite grocery store has a very diversified customer base – maybe I’ll get a chance to kick an ICE agent in the shins, as I plan to do, one day. In the meantime, I find myself sighing, well, of course they did, and hope we are all still energized enough to hit the streets on a regular basis. I guess that’s where most of my angst lies.

  4. I’ve always associated angst with dread, or fear. It feels like a vague but complicated emotion. Maybe, and this gives me hope, that means it’s the start of something better.
