Day 4391: Afraid to Look

I woke up this morning afraid to look at the news.

.

I’ve been afraid to look since November and I’m afraid that I’m going to be afraid to look for a long, long time.

I’m not afraid to look at the other images I have to share with you today.

.

Here’s what I find when I search for “afraid to look” on YouTube.

.

For weeks, I’ve even been afraid to look at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (a source of solace in the past), so I’m grateful that showed up in my search.

Thanks to all who are not afraid to look at this daily blog, including YOU.

  1. it’s okay to be afraid, and then gather your wits and stand up again

I’m not actually afraid of anything, including stuff I should be afraid of. I take a pill for that. Escitalipram keeps me from having panic attacks (when I used to be afraid I was having a heart attack), and now I find that I’m fairly dispassionate about everything. Which does not mean that I don’t care. I still care, but I don’t react emotionally.

The fire is terrible. I have a couple of friends with near relatives who lived in Pacific Pallisades. They had a doctor’s appointment the morning of the fire, and when they came out they were not able to return. Their home had burned down, and they lost everything. He is a well-known cinematographer, and I can only imagine the memorabilia he had of his career. I just hope the doctor’s appointment went well.

What a fitting book title. Who knew that Joan had a book.

  4. I have friends in California who had to leave their homes. A couple were in a shelter and now they’re all in hotels. I’ve been afraid to look at the news but more afraid for my friends which is why I haven’t watched the news but I’ve been watching my messages. And I’d keep an eye on Joan. She might be plotting a remake of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?
