Day 4139: Decisions

Yesterday, in a Coping and Healing group, one of the members said that they were “bad at making decisions” — not because they made bad decisions but rather because they were taking a long time and doing a lot of research before making a decision. They also experienced the decision-making process as painful.

I made the decision not to interrupt this person in my group, but my thought was that I could relate to their decision process.

Here and now, I need to make decisions about how to describe my upcoming concert of original songs on the venue website and in an invitation to the show. I’m procrastinating making those decisions, maybe because I’m “bad at decisions.”

What decisions do you see in my images for today?

.

I have no trouble making the decision to play my ukulele on National Play Your Ukulele Day. I’ll also make some decisions today about the descriptions of my concert (where I’ll be playing ukuleles, the piano, and drums).

Here’s what I find when I search for “decisions” on YouTube.

.

I wonder what decisions people will make about leaving comments, below.

Thanks to all those who have to make decisions every day, including YOU!

  1. I hope you can share your description with us when you finished it, Ann. I think it’s natural to find it difficult to write something that’s so important, but I remember how beautifully you manage this at the Edinburgh Fringe. Good luck today.

  2. It’s still hard for me to describe my novels when I put one of them on sale for a day or two. Talking about your own work always seems to present a fine line between boasting and interesting someone in the work. Good luck!

As for decisions, as Sherlock Holmes once said, when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the [right decision].

  3. I think some people have trouble making decisions because they see a decision as limiting, but every decision opens up new possibilities. Today I made the tough decision to stop working on playing “You Really Got Me” with my ukulele teacher—I’ll keep working on it by myself—but that meant we started working on “Hey Jude” together. So, yeah, I also appreciate the couple Lennon and McCartney.

  4. I tend to be of a more impulsive, not really think it through type of person, a right brainer for sure. not always good, but the majority of the time things have turned out well, and really nothing that cannot be changed if you’ve made the ‘wrong decision’ other than dying. p.s. I did not make a conscious decision to not eat chocolate truffles on their special day, but I was unaware of it until now, and will now honor it by doing so today.

  6. As for decisions, I have learned my visceral voice is always right. Every time I override it or allow myself to be dissuaded, I regret it. My first intuition is the one I must follow to avoid regrets.
