Day 3968: World Kindness Day

Today is World Kindness Day, so let’s do our best to show kindness to everyone in the world, including those we don’t agree with AND also ourselves.

I’m going to begin by extending kindness to myself about waking up too early. When I started composing this kindness post in my head, I thought it was close to 5 AM, the time I wake up on Mondays in order to catch the ferry into Boston so I can practice kindness during the one day per week I work in person at the hospital. When I realized it was 3:20 AM, my first impulse was to judge myself about not doing a better job staying asleep, but I immediately modulated that with kindness.

I’m also showing kindness to myself about getting a flat tire last night when I was on my way to check out a venue for my concert of original songs this spring. Kindness seems like the appropriate response, doesn’t it?

I don’t know why it can more challenging to show kindness to myself than to others, but I know I’m not alone in that. That’s why I made up the Platinum Rule: Do unto yourself as you would do unto others. Of course, that works best with kindness.

I appreciate your kindness in sticking with this post as I share my images for World Kindness Day.

Apparently the Daily Bitch is unaware that today is World Kindness Day. Shall we tell her?

Here’s what I find when I search for “world kindness day” on YouTube.

That video about World Kindness Day and Week reminds me that I’m thinking of donating any profits from my album of original songs to a charity benefiting those who deal with mental/behavioral health issues.

How are you going to spend World Kindness Day?

Thanks to all who show kindness, including YOU!

  1. kindness in all things

  2. Because I’ve already started watching the wonderfully done series on Apple TV with my dear wife Karen one episode per week, I’ve decided it would be kinder to myself to not read ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ in novel form until the TV run is over, Ann. Karen read the book first and suggests I wait.

Lovely! Will be kind to myself today.. starting with making myself a great breakfast, and just going easy on myself. Its something we need to do more often and easily – kindness to ourselves!

  4. My hopes for my children was that they be kind, intelligent, and funny. Intelligent is optimum. Kindness is essential. Funny is necessary.

  5. Ann,
I believe it is harder to show kindness to ourselves than others because we know ourselves better than others.
In that we may feel unworthy to receive such a pleasant expression from ourselves.
    Oh, to be a cat.

  6. I’m very aware of how a kind word from anyone can make my whole day better so I try to share some kindness with others when I can.
