For the first time yesterday, I
- was vulnerable in a two-day process group at a yearly group therapy conference without subsequently feeling any shame at all,
- told people in the group that it was National Be Nasty Day as an invitation to people (especially the women) to accept all our feelings, including anger,
- went to Sarge’s Deli,
- talked to somebody at Sarge’s about the fabulous Dr. Irwin Corey, who was a regular customer there,
- saw the musical Six, and
- posted this question about doing things for the first time on Twitter.

For the first time, I’m going to be nasty and post an annoying response to one of my Twitter questions:

For the first time, I’m going to say that I really don’t appreciate the characterization of “tiresome question” and the claim of posing “a better question” despite the reality that we really don’t know if we’re doing something for the last time. For the first time, I’m going to admit my petty glee that not one person has responded to that tweet.
I am posting all these other images for the first time.

For the first time, I know what Bang-Clang Day means, which commemorates something being done for the first time.

For the first time, I’m sharing this video:

Thanks to everyone who helps me have the courage to do things for the first time, including YOU.

Glad you had fun yesterday, Ann! Was the musical good? Did you enjoy lunch at the delli?
Thank you for asking! The musical was great and we had a yummy dinner before the musical at the deli. We called a Lyft to take us to the musical and after the Lyft, which was supposed to arrive in 3 minutes, still hadn’t arrived after 15 minutes, I cancelled a Lyft ride for the first time and we hopped into a cab. For the first time, I got to a show late which also started late, so we didn’t miss a thing! It Also for the first time, I fantasized that this was because somebody in the show was also stuck in traffic.
It seems as if you are accomplishing many worthy things for the first time on this New York City trip, Ann.
Not for the first time, you are very perceptive, my friend.
The therapy group experience sounds pretty awesome but I think I’d be too terrified to do that! I commend you for your ongoing personal growth and courage.
It’s interesting to think that somebody tried to tell you what a better question would be than the one you had posed. What would it feel like to be a person who wants a better question, rather than a person like me, who comes up with seemingly infinite possible answers to one question and then can’t think of which one of the answers is best!
What is something that I have done recently for the first time? I stumbled across a cached PDF online that impressed me with its information, then I looked up the author and found that she lives in Australia, and then I located her on Facebook and told her that I admired her paper and asked if she could tell me when she had written it and whether it had been published, so that I could quote her in something that I am working on. And in the process I found her a very interesting person!
What is something that I have done for the last time. Well, I wish I could give an answer like like “plunged the toilet” or “regretted something” But I think the only thing I can come up with right now is “Wear that sock with the hole in the heel, that I keep pulling out of the sock drawer.” I finally tossed that sock.
I am reading your blog today not for the first time and I really hope, not for the last time!
We both hope similar things, my friend! 💕
The first time I tried a pastrami sandwich was on a trip to New York with my parents. I’d seen a sitcom episode where two women go to New York and while they’re walking around trying to decide what to do they run into a man they don’t realize is Ed Koch and they ask him what to do. He gives them several ideas and ends with, “And you have to have a pastrami on rye.” Later on they’re going somewhere and one asks, “Can we get a pastrami on rye there?” and the other one says, “This is New York. They have pastrami on rye in the vending machines there.”
My mother wanted to see a Broadway play (42nd Street, which I enjoyed too), my father wanted to take a carriage ride around Central Park (a whole other story) and we found a deli and all had pastrami sandwiches. I’ve never had one that was as good but I’ve had many since then that were still very, very good.
And this is not the first time I forgot to add something which is that there were still Automats at the time of that sitcom so the vending machines line, while funny, wasn’t entirely a joke!
👍
Thanks for another delicious story, Chris.

I enjoy seeing this poem for the first time, Maria!
I recently went on a road rally with people I didn’t know before, for the first time and it was a blast!
